Summary

Uncover the treasures of ancient Greece on this 5-day tour, starting and ending in Athens. After settling in, the tour heads through Thebes and Arachova to Delphi, exploring its ancient Archaeological Site before continuing on to Kalambaka. From here, Meteora's monasteries rise dramatically atop towering rock pillars, reached before the return journey to Athens, passing Thermopylae and Leonidas' Monument along the way. Back in the capital, a full day is spent exploring the Acropolis, the Parthenon and the New Acropolis Museum, along with Syntagma Square and the Temple of Olympian Zeus.

Itinerary

  • Day 1

    Arrival in Athens

On arrival at Athens International Airport, you will be met and transferred to your hotel. This carefully selected hotel offers a comfortable and welcoming stay for your one night in Athens. The rest of the day is at your leisure. You may wish to explore the famous flea market in Plaka, the city’s historic old town, known for its charming streets and vibrant atmosphere. Overnight in Athens.

  • Day 2

Delphi and the Journey to Kalambaka

After a hearty breakfast, we set off for Delphi, travelling through Thebes, Levadia and the charming village of Arachova, nestled on the slopes of Mount Parnassus. Upon arrival, we explore the Archaeological Site of Delphi, once considered the centre of the ancient world and home to the famous Oracle. Following the visit, we continue to Kalambaka, passing through scenic villages and towns of Central Greece. We spend the night in Kalambaka.

  • Day 3

    Meteora and Return to Athens

After breakfast, we visit Meteora to experience its striking landscape, where ancient monasteries perch atop towering rock formations. These monasteries hold significant historical and religious treasures, offering a unique glimpse into Greece’s spiritual heritage. Following the visit, we return to Athens, travelling through Trikala, Lamia and Thermopylae, where we pause briefly to see the Monument of Leonidas. We arrive in Athens early evening for an overnight stay.

  • Day 4

    Athens City and Acropolis Tour

After breakfast, our expert guide will take you to the Panathenaic Stadium, the site of the first modern Olympic Games in 1896, for a brief stop. We then continue past key landmarks including the Prime Minister’s residence—formerly the Royal Palace and guarded by the colourful Euzones—the Temple of Olympian Zeus, Hadrian’s Arch, the Parliament building with the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the Academy, the University, the National Library, and Constitution Square (Syntagma). At the Acropolis, we explore the architectural masterpieces of Athens’ Golden Age: the Propylaea, the Temple of Athena Nike, the Erechtheion, and the Parthenon, often described as the perfect balance of form and spirit. We conclude the day at the New Acropolis Museum, where the classical statues now reside, offering a remarkable insight into ancient Greek art and culture. Overnight in Athens.

  • Day 5

    Departure from Athens

After breakfast at the hotel, enjoy your final morning in Athens at your leisure. When the time comes, we will transfer you to Athens airport for your onward flight or to the port of Piraeus if you are continuing your journey to the islands.
