Itinerary
Day 1
Arrival in Denmark
Welcome to Denmark, the oldest kingdom in Europe. Upon arrival in Copenhagen, you'll be transferred to your hotel in the city centre. Enjoy the rest of the day at your leisure, exploring the charming streets and discovering the city's hidden treasures.
Day 2
Copenhagen Canal Tour
After breakfast on day 2, you will join an included canal tour with a local guide to explore Copenhagen's harbour and the idyllic canals. The tour departs from either Nyhavn or Gammel Strand and takes you past some of Copenhagen's top sights and attractions. As you travel through the water, your guide will give you insight into the beautiful churches, castles, historical houses, new buildings, and other sights that may interest you on this tour.
After, you will have the rest of the day and all of day 3 at leisure. You can enjoy the timeless charms of Copenhagen, from the iconic Little Mermaid to the rococo Royal Palace of Amalienborg. Walk around Nyhavn, once a bustling port, now a vibrant tourist hub. Be sure to check out house number 20, the former home of famed writer H.C. Andersen. Especially in the summer, Nyhavn is the perfect spot to unwind after a long day.
If you have enough time and are looking for a local experience, why not explore Denmark as a true local? Copenhagen is known for its biking culture dating back to the 1880's; men, women and children can be seen cycling to work and school. This is your chance to take a ride through the city.
Day 4
Copenhagen to Odense
Copenhagen - Odense. After breakfast, make your way to the train station for your journey west to the Danish island of Fyn, with the scenic ride to Odense taking approximately 1.5 hours. Known as the birthplace of Hans Christian Andersen, Odense is a charming city filled with historical landmarks, cobbled streets, and cultural attractions, offering a glimpse into Denmark's rich heritage.
Once you have arrived in Odense, you will have the rest of the day at leisure to explore the city as you please. You can visit the museum dedicated to H.C. Andersen's life and work or tour his childhood home. Explore the charming old town with its cobbled streets, visit the impressive Odense Cathedral, or relax in the beautiful Munke Mose Park. Don’t miss the Funen Village, an open-air museum showcasing Denmark's rural past, or take a stroll along the picturesque streets lined with cafés and boutique shops.
Day 5
Odense to Aarhus
Odense - Aarhus. On day 5, you’ll board the train to Aarhus, a scenic 1.5-hour journey that takes you into Jylland, Denmark’s mainland connected to Germany. Upon arrival in Aarhus, the country’s second-largest city, you'll be greeted by a lively, youthful atmosphere, where modern innovation blends seamlessly with rich history. Known for its dynamic arts scene, trendy cafés, and historic landmarks, Aarhus offers plenty to explore, making it an ideal destination for a short stay filled with culture and discovery.
For the rest of today and day 6, you can explore Aarhus as you please. Perhaps start by visiting the ARoS Art Museum, known for its stunning architecture and impressive collection of modern art. Stroll through the city center, where you'll discover a mix of trendy boutiques, cozy cafés, antique stores, and vibrant art galleries. Don’t miss the magnificent Aarhus Cathedral, the longest and tallest of its kind in Denmark.
You can also spend time at Den Gamle By, a national open-air museum that brings Denmark's urban history to life. This recreated town offers a fascinating glimpse into everyday Danish life in past centuries, providing a unique and immersive experience.
Day 7
Aarhus to Copenhagen
Aarhus - Copenhagen. Today, you will have the morning to explore any sights in Aarhus that you may have missed yesterday, or you can enjoy a well deserved lie in.
In the afternoon, you will board a scheduled bus to the ferry terminal, making your way to Sjælland Island. Enjoy your journey as the boat cuts through the sea, offering beautiful views of the coastline, quaint villages, and serene waters. As you travel from Aarhus to Odden, take in the scenic Danish landscapes. Upon arrival in Odden, you will disembark and board a bus for a relaxing drive back to Copenhagen, passing through picturesque countryside and coastal vistas, making your return to the capital both scenic and comfortable. (Approximately 3.5 hours)
