Summary

SEMI-INDEPENDENT TOUR: Discover Greece and the Med on this 10-day tour, beginning in Athens with a guided exploration of ancient landmarks including the Acropolis and its renowned museum. Journey through the Peloponnese to visit Epidaurus, Mycenae, and the historic sites of Olympia and Delphi, before admiring the dramatic monasteries of Meteora. Return to Athens before embarking on a cruise through the Aegean, stopping at the iconic islands of Mykonos and Santorini, the ancient ruins of Ephesus in Kusadasi, and the sacred island of Patmos, before concluding back in Athens.

Itinerary

  • Day 1

    Arrival in Athens

    Upon arrival at Athens International Airport, you'll be greeted and transferred to your hotel located in the city center. The remainder of the day is yours to enjoy at your leisure.

    Please note: This tour is conducted in English. However, dependent on the mix of the group, touring may also be bilingual, in one additional language as well as English.

  • Day 2

    Exploring Athens

    After breakfast, we will meet you at your hotel or a nearby location to begin the morning Athens Sightseeing Tour. This tour offers a chance to witness the remarkable contrasts that make Athens a captivating city. Our knowledgeable guides will lead us to the Panathenaic Stadium, the site of the first modern Olympic Games, where we will pause briefly.

    As we continue, we will pass by significant landmarks including the Prime Minister's residence (formerly the Royal Palace), guarded by the Evzones in their vibrant uniforms; the Temple of Olympian Zeus; Hadrian's Arch; the Parliament and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier; the Academy of Athens; the University; the National Library; and Constitution Square (Syntagma).

    A tour of Athens wouldn't be complete without a visit to the Acropolis, one of the world's most renowned sites and a symbol of democracy in the Western world. There, we will explore architectural wonders from the Golden Age of Pericles, including the Propylaea, the Temple of Athena Nike, the Erechtheion, and the Parthenon, esteemed by ancient Greeks for its harmonious balance of material and spirit. Our final stop will be the modern Acropolis Museum, which houses nearly 4,000 exhibits of Hellenistic art.

    Please note: The tour departs at approximately 08:45 and returns around 13:30.

  • Day 3

    Athens to Olympia

    Athens - Epidaurus - Nafplio - Mycenae - Olympia. We will collect you from designated locations in Athens around 8:45 AM and drive along the scenic coastal road to the Corinth Canal for a brief stop.

    Following this, we will visit the Theatre of Epidaurus, renowned for its exceptional acoustics, before heading to Nafplion, the first capital of modern Greece, for a quick stop.

    Our journey will then continue to Mycenae, where we will explore the archaeological site and the Tomb of Agamemnon. The day, rich in cultural experiences, will end in Olympia, the birthplace of the Olympic Games, after traveling through Central Peloponnesus and passing the towns of Tripolis and Megalopolis.

  • Day 4

    Ancient Olympia to Delphi

    Olympia - Delphi. In the morning, we will explore the Archaeological Site featuring the sanctuary of Olympian Zeus, the Ancient Stadium, and the Archaeological Museum.

    Afterwards, we will drive through the plains of Ilia and Achaia to reach the stunning bridge that spans the Corinthian Bay from Rion to Antirion. Travel past the charming towns of Nafpaktos (Lepanto) and Itea before arriving in Delphi.

  • Day 5

    Discover Delphi & Transfer to Kalabaka

    Delphi - kalabaka. In the morning, we will explore the Archaeological Site and the Museum of Delphi. Then, we head to Kalabaka, a quaint town located at the base of the remarkable Meteora, famous for its towering rock formations that soar dramatically above the Thessalian plain and the monasteries perched on top.

  • Day 6

    Meteora Monasteries & Transfer to Athens

    Kalabaka - Meteora - Athens. Today, we will start our day by exploring the monasteries of Meteora. These timeless monasteries are perched atop massive rock formations that appear to be floating in mid-air, offering stunning examples of Byzantine art. We will then travel from Kalabaka to Athens, the lively capital city of Greece. The rest of the day will be at your leisure.

  • Day 7

    Cruise to Mykonos

    Athens - Mykonos. After breakfast, we head to the port where we will board a ship. Leaving behind Greece's historic and classical capital to sail to our first stop: the stunning island of Mykonos, famously known as the Island of the Winds.

    We will enjoy an evening stroll through the charming Old Town, featuring pristine whitewashed houses, winding alleys, quaint churches, and delightful waterside restaurants. You'll surely recognize the iconic white windmills lined up overlooking the sea.

    Please note: that the cruise itineraries, vessels, and ports may be changed or cancelled by the cruise line at any time, with or without prior notice. A similar vessel may be substituted if necessary. Please ensure your ID, passport, and multiple-entry Schengen visa are valid and up to date before travel.

  • Day 8

    Mykonos to Santorini

    Mykonos - Santorini. Our journey continues towards Santorini, where we will spend an evening in a globally renowned place for its breathtaking beauty. The island is sure to captivate you with its dramatic landscapes, the charming, whitewashed houses in its capital, Fira, and the iconic, blue-domed church in Oia. Be sure to dine at one of the many restaurants competing for the best views along the caldera's edge.

  • Day 9

    Exploring Kusadasi & Sail to Patmos

    Santorini - Kusadasi - Patmos. Today, we will arrive in the vibrant Turkish beach town of Kusadasi in the morning. Known as the coastal gateway to the Hellenistic ruins of Ephesus, this site is renowned for the Temple of Artemis, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. It is also famous for being the traditionally claimed location of the vision to John as described in the Book of Revelation, where it is believed to have been written. While many scholars suggest it may have been penned by someone else, the story remains captivating. In the afternoon we continue sailing towards Patmos.

  • Day 10

    Patmos to Athens

    Patmos - Athens. After enjoying our final breakfast, we'll head back to the Greek capital following a few exciting days filled with adventure and discovery. We'll then transfer to Athens International Airport for your onward flight.

    Please note: to book your departure flight after 10:30 AM.
