Summary
Embark on an unforgettable journey through Greece, starting in Athens where you'll explore the city's historic marvels, including the Acropolis and its captivating museum. Day two takes you to the ancient site of Delphi, nestled on the scenic slopes of Mount Parnassus, where you'll uncover the rich history of the Sanctuary of Apollo Pythius and admire notable artefacts in its museum. Another day offers the thrill of traversing the Corinth Canal and visiting the majestic ruins of Mycenae, complemented by a picturesque stop in the town of Nauplion. With a balance of expertly guided tours and leisure time to soak in Greece's vibrant culture, this itinerary is the perfect blend of discovery and relaxation.
Itinerary
Day 1
Welcome to Athens!
On arrival in Athens, you are met and transferred to your hotel for check-in. The rest of the day is free to settle in and get a first impression of the city. You may wish to explore the neighbourhood, enjoy a meal, or relax after your journey.
Day 2
Athens Sightseeing Tour
This morning, we explore Athens with an expert guide, beginning with highlights such as the Panathenaic Stadium - host of the first modern Olympic Games - along with the Temple of Olympian Zeus, Hadrian’s Arch, Parliament, and Syntagma Square.
We then visit the Acropolis, the ancient citadel overlooking the city, followed by the Acropolis Museum, where artefacts and sculptures provide insight into classical Greek civilisation.
The afternoon is free. You can continue exploring at your own pace, relax at the hotel, or join an optional evening tour with dinner in a traditional Greek taverna.
Day 3
Full Day Tour to Delphi
After breakfast, our coach will collect us for a memorable day tour of Delphi, a site once known for the most renowned oracle of ancient Greece and considered the navel of the world.
Nestled on the slopes of Mount Parnassus, you will explore the stunning ruins of the Sanctuary of Apollo Pythius. Among the highlights are the Treasury of the Athenians, the Theatre, and the Stadium. Visit the museum to see notable artefacts, including the statue of Antinoos and the exceptional bronze Charioteer statue dating back to 475 B.C., as well as the celebrated athlete Aghias.
We will pause for lunch in the scenic modern village of Delphi before returning to Athens in the late evening.
Day 4
Explore the Argolis Region
Today we explore the Argolis region. We begin with a short stop at the Corinth Canal - an impressive engineering landmark linking two seas.
We continue to Mycenae, a key centre of ancient Greek civilisation, where we see the Lion’s Gate, Cyclopean Walls, and Royal Tombs. Lunch is included here.
Later, we stop in Nauplion for views of the Palamidi Fortress before visiting the Theatre of Epidauros, renowned for its remarkable acoustics. We return to Athens in the evening.
Day 5
Goodbye Athens
Depending on your flight schedule, we'll arrange your transfer to Athens Airport. You'll depart with cherished memories of Greece's remarkable attractions. Farewell, and we look forward to welcoming you back on your next visit.
