Summary
SEMI-INDEPENDENT TOUR: Journey through Greece and the Adriatic on this 10-day itinerary starting and ending in Athens, featuring a 7-night cruise at its core. The experience opens with guided sightseeing in Athens, including the Acropolis and its acclaimed museum, before boarding the Heavenly Adriatic cruise. Ports of call include the island of Kefalonia, the walled city of Dubrovnik, UNESCO-listed Kotor, and the Italian port of Bari, alongside green Corfu and Katakolon, the gateway to ancient Olympia.
Itinerary
Day 1
Arrival in Athens
On arrival in Athens, you are met by a local representative and transferred to your hotel. The remainder of the day is at leisure, allowing you time to relax after the journey or explore the city at your own pace.
Day 2
Athens City Tour
This morning, we set out on a guided panoramic tour of Athens. Our drive takes us past the Panathenaic Stadium, built entirely of marble and still used for ceremonial events, as well as the Zappeion Hall, the Temple of Olympian Zeus and Hadrian’s Arch. We also pass Syntagma Square, the Greek Parliament and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, where the changing of the guards reflects a proud national tradition.
We continue past the neoclassical buildings of the Academy, University and National Library before reaching the Acropolis. Here, we explore this UNESCO-listed site on foot, seeing the Propylaea, the Temple of Athena Nike, the Parthenon and the Erechtheion, each reflecting the architectural and artistic achievements of ancient Athens. We then visit the Acropolis Museum, home to remarkable sculptures and finds from the sacred hill, including the original Caryatides.
Day 3
Beginning of Adriatic Cruise
After breakfast, we will be transferred to Piraeus port, where we will board our cruise. You can enjoy the facilities and entertainment onboard as we cruise around the Peloponnese and into the Ionian Sea.
Day 4
Discovering Kefalonia
Athens - Kefalonia. Today, we arrive in Kefalonia in the morning, the largest of the Ionian islands, known for its dramatic coastline and unspoilt landscapes.
You may choose to join one of the optional excursions to discover the island’s natural beauty, from striking beaches and impressive caves to local wineries and traditional fishing villages. Alternatively, you can enjoy time at leisure, soaking up the relaxed island atmosphere before we continue our cruise later in the day.
Day 5
Cruising to Dubrovnik
Kefalonia (Greece) - Dubrovnik (Croatia). We arrive in Dubrovnik around mid-day, one of Croatia’s most celebrated cities, renowned for its well-preserved medieval walls and terracotta rooftops.
You may choose to join an optional walking tour through the historic old town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, or take the cable car to the top of Mount Srd for sweeping panoramic views over the city and the Adriatic Sea. There is free time to explore hidden corners, soak up the atmosphere and enjoy the city’s lively evening ambience before we set sail again later at night.
Day 6
Onward to Kotor
Dubrovnik (Croatia) - Kotor (Montenegro). Today, we arrive in Kotor, a beautifully preserved historic town in Montenegro, set at the head of one of Europe’s most dramatic bays and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
You may choose to join one of the optional excursions to explore the highlights of Montenegro, including Kotor, Budva and the iconic islet of Sveti Stefan. Alternatively, you can enjoy time at leisure, wandering through medieval streets, discovering ancient city walls and taking in the striking natural scenery that surrounds the town.
Day 7
Journey to Bari
Kotor (Montenegro) - Bari (Italy). This morning, we arrive in Bari, a historic port city on Italy’s Adriatic coast.
You may choose to join an optional excursion to the fairytale town of Alberobello, famous for its distinctive trulli houses, or visit Ostuni, the white city set on a hilltop. Alternatively, you can explore Bari at your own pace, discovering its old town and rich heritage, or venture further into Apulia to see the Grottos of Castellana or the coastal town of Polignano a Mare.
Day 8
Cruising to Corfu
Bari (Italy) - Corfu (Greece). In the morning, we arrive in Corfu, an enchanting island known for its lush landscapes and distinctive architecture shaped by Byzantine and Venetian influences.
You may choose to join an optional excursion to explore the old fortresses and wander through the historic old town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Alternatively, you can stroll around the spacious Esplanade Square, admire the Achilleion Palace, or enjoy the classic views of Pontikonisi from the famous Kanoni viewpoint.
Day 9
Discovering Katakolon
Corfu - Katakolon. We make our way to Katakolon, a small coastal town known as the gateway to ancient Olympia, the birthplace of the Olympic Games.
You may choose to join an optional excursion to explore the archaeological site of Olympia, including the Temple of Zeus, the Palaestra and the Workshop of Phidias, as well as the local museum, home to the renowned statue of Hermes by Praxiteles. Alternatively, you can enjoy time at leisure in the port area before we continue our cruise.
Day 10
Departure from Athens
Kotakolon - Athens. After our final breakfast onboard, we will disembark at the Piraeus port and say goodbye to our fellow travellers and crew before being transferred to the airport for your onward flight.
