Summary

Embrace Southeast Asia’s wealth of unforgettable experiences on our 14-day Thailand and Laos group tour - an action-packed adventure designed for 18-45 year-olds. Thailand and Laos are the perfect contradiction, with Thailand’s popular backpacking path differing to the quiet and sleepy Laos. Both are united, however, in their affordability and incredible offerings for travellers. On our amazing two week Thailand and Laos group tour, you’ll explore everywhere from the bustling Chiang Mai to the stunning Vang Vieng. Spend the day at an elephant sanctuary, explore the Tham Phu Kam Cave, and go water-rafting in Chiang Mai – we’ll even throw in a couple of days in the beautiful Hanoi, Vietnam for good measure.

Itinerary

  • Day 1

    Bangkok

Your Thailand adventure begins today! Arrive in Bangkok, where you’ll meet your group and Adventure Leader, ready to kick off the next fortnight of fun.

Once you’re settled in, embark on a tour by tuk-tuk as you wind through the busy streets in search of the best food the city has to offer. Your local foodie tour guide will lead you on an evening adventure to discover hidden culinary treasures far from the tourist haunts, where you can try local delicacies like pad thai and freshly caught seafood.

End your first night with a visit to one of Bangkok’s many rooftop bars, where you can gaze out across the city before turning in for the night.

  • Day 2

    Bangkok

Start your morning at your leisure – if you’d like, you’ve got the option of joining a tour of the Old City, where you can learn all about Bangkok’s rich history. It’ll take you to iconic temples like Wat Pho, Wat Arun, and the stunning Grand Palace. After returning to your hostel, there’s just time for a quick freshen up before we head to the train station, ready to embark on our journey to Chiang Mai.

[Note: if you’re joining the Old City tour, you’ll need to check out prior to heading out.]

  • Day 3

    Jungle Trek

Upon arrival at Chiang Mai station, our overnight homestay extends a heartfelt welcome! Drop off your bags at the accommodation before delving into an afternoon of untamed exploration.

Set off to the starting point of our thrilling jungle trek, spanning 4-6km. Traverse through lush landscapes for a couple of hours, punctuated by a revitalizing pause at a picturesque waterfall. Return to our homestay, where a delightful evening meal awaits.

  • Day 4

    Elephant Sanctuary

Check out of our homestay for an extraordinary half-day at an ethical elephant sanctuary! Engage with experts, gaining insights into elephant behaviors and the sanctuary's conservation endeavors in Thailand. Witness their playful escapades in mud pits and even assist in preparing treats. Relish a sumptuous vegetarian buffet lunch on-site.

Later, transition to the city, finding your luggage ready at the hostel. In the evening, indulge in your choice between a hands-on cooking class or the exhilarating spectacle of a Muay Thai show.

  • Day 5

    Chiang Mai

We’ll commence the day with a fascinating Monk chat at the first temple, and then we’ll hop on public songthaews, those iconic Thai red trucks, to visit these captivating temples. After immersing ourselves in the spiritual beauty of Wat Doi Suthep, we’ll make our way back to the hostel. For those seeking an optional thrill, consider embarking on a journey to the stunning limestone Sticky Waterfall, which is about 1.5 hours away by songthaew, a ride well-known for its unique charm.

  • Day 6

    Chiang Mai

Today, you have a free day, and there are several exciting options to choose from. Brace yourself for some Whitewater Rafting, or take on another trek across the glorious landscapes. If you’d like to explore the old town independently, don’t hesitate to ask your leader for suggestions. For a taste of local flavour, you can visit the local market with souvenir and street food.

  • Day 7

    Luang Prabang

Start your day with a morning flight to Luang Prabang. After your arrival, you’ll be transferred to your new accommodation. In the evening, there’s an optional group dinner on the agenda. Following dinner, take a stroll to the Hmong Night Market. This vibrant market is a fantastic place to immerse yourself in local traditional music, crafts, and food.

  • Day 8

    Luang Prabang

This morning you have a wide range of activities to choose from. Partake in the rich local culture by joining the enchanting Takbat Lao Ceremony, where monks gather food from around the city. If you’re in the mood for a culinary adventure, consider the Cooking Experience where you will explore the local wet market, purchase fresh ingredients and enjoy a hands-on cooking session. Another option is to give back by volunteering at Big Brother Big Mouse.

For a delightful blend of adventure and creativity, opt for Biking to Visit the Village and Practice Making Pottery. This full-day adventure includes cycling through captivating locales, learning about pottery, and even crossing the Mekong River before lunch. A visit to the enchanting Kuang Si Waterfalls is an unmissable activity.

  • Day 9

    Luang Prabang

In the morning, consider an optional visit to Ban Xanghai village, renowned for its whisky and rice wine production. Here, you can learn about the art of crafting these spirits and savor a homemade lunch hosted by a local family. Following your village visit, embark on a boat journey down the picturesque Mekong River to explore the renowned Pak Ou Caves. On your return journey to the hostel, make a stop at Mt. Phousi and relish a beautiful sunset.

  • Day 10

    Vang Vieng

Today, you’ll take a bus to Vang Vieng. Along the way, there’s a stop at the Blue Lagoon, a picturesque location perfect for a refreshing swim and a break from the heat. In the evening, you’ll check in at your new hostel and have the option to either unwind or explore the local nightlife.

  • Day 11

    Vang Vieng

Today offers an array of exciting activities. You can opt for a thrilling rock-climbing experience, take a biking tour to explore the area, and then embark on a hike up to the Pha Ngern Viewpoint, where you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking vistas. Alternatively, you can choose to leisurely float down the Mekong River in a rubber tube, pausing along the way to admire the stunning scenery. In the evening, you have free time to immerse yourself in the vibrant nightlife of Vang Vieng.

  • Day 12

    Hanoi

Begin your day early with a bus ride to the airport, from where you’ll catch a flight to Hanoi – the final stop on our Thailand and Laos group tour. Upon arrival in Hanoi, you’ll be transferred to your new hostel via bus. In the evening, you can either explore the local streets for some delicious street food, or opt to join an optional bar crawl for a night of fun with your fellow travellers.

  • Day 13

    Hanoi

Today’s itinerary includes a visit to the Hoa Lo Prison where you’ll have the opportunity to learn about Vietnam’s history. Following this, you’ll head over to Hoan Kiem Lake with its central temple. You can leisurely stroll around the lake, observing the locals as they engage in games and activities on the wide streets constructed by the French in Hanoi’s historical centre. If you’re feeling hungry, Old Quarter Street offers a variety of dining options for you to enjoy.

Afterward, you’ll have a free afternoon to explore Hanoi’s narrow streets, where you can try your hand at crossing the bustling roads just like a local. If you’re in the mood for some evening entertainment, consider attending a Water Puppet Show for a unique cultural experience.

  • Day 14

    Hanoi

Today marks the end of your Thailand and Laos group tour. Wake up and check out of your hostel at 11am. Here, you will take the time to bid farewell to your group and either head home or continue your independent travels.

  • The South East Asia adventure tour was well planned and had a great itinerary. It was well thought out and covered most things I wanted to do. If you love trekking, climbing, cycling, or rafting, you shouldn't pass up on the Thailand and Laos tours.
