Social Group Trips to the USA for Young Adults

Some of America's biggest icons are within a few hours' drive of each other, which makes the American West one of the best road trip destinations in the world — and our 18-30s USA tours are built to make the most of it. Think camping under the stars in Zion or the Grand Canyon one night, and taking on the neon lights of Las Vegas the next.

Our routes link together the national parks and cities that make this part of the country legendary: Yosemite's granite cliffs and giant sequoias, Death Valley's otherworldly landscapes, Bryce Canyon's hoodoos, the sheer scale of the Grand Canyon, and a stretch of the historic Route 66. Add in time in Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and San Francisco, and you've got a trip that swings between total wilderness and big-city energy in the space of a week or two.

Most nights are spent camping at sites in or near the parks (all the gear's provided, so you don't need your own), with a few hotel or hostel nights built in around the cities. You'll be travelling in a small group with other 18-30-somethings, led throughout by a local guide who knows the parks, the best viewpoints, and exactly when to get you there for sunset.

At The Adventure People, we specialise in small-group tours for 18-30-somethings across the USA and beyond. Browse the tours below, or get in touch with our team if you want help picking the right route for you.

  • Do I need camping experience or my own gear?

No. Camping nights are at organised campsites in or near the national parks, and all camping equipment is provided (you'll typically just need to bring your own sleeping bag and pillow). No previous camping experience is needed — your guide handles the logistics.

  • Do I need a visa to visit the USA?

Most UK passport holders can travel to the USA under the Visa Waiver Program using an approved ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization) rather than a full visa, provided the trip is for tourism and under 90 days. Requirements can vary by nationality, so it's worth checking current ESTA eligibility and applying well ahead of your trip.

  • What's the best time of year for a USA national parks road trip?

It depends on the route. Summer (June–August) has the longest days and most reliable weather across the parks, though Death Valley and other desert areas can get extremely hot. Spring and autumn (April–May and September–October) tend to offer more comfortable temperatures for hiking, while some high-altitude areas may have limited access in winter.

  • Is tipping expected in the USA?

Yes — tipping is customary and generally expected, typically around 18–20% for service at restaurants and bars. It's also usual to tip your tour guide and driver directly at the end of the trip; exact guidance is usually provided by your tour operator before you travel.

  • What currency and payment options do I need?

The US Dollar is the currency used throughout. Credit and debit cards are widely accepted, but it's worth carrying some cash in smaller denominations for tips, snacks, and stops in smaller towns along routes like Route 66, where card machines aren't always available.

  • Is travel insurance required?

Yes. US healthcare costs can be extremely high, so comprehensive travel insurance that covers medical treatment and emergency evacuation is essential, not just recommended. Check the specific coverage minimums required for your tour before booking.

  • What is an 18-30s tour?

An 18-30s tour is a small-group trip designed specifically for travellers aged between 18 and 39. The itineraries, pace, accommodation, and free time are all built around what this age group tends to want — a mix of culture, adventure, and a good social side to the trip, without needing to plan any of the logistics yourself.

  • Will everyone on the tour be travelling solo?

Not necessarily. Our 18-30s tours attract a mix of solo travellers, pairs of friends, and couples — but everyone is in the same 18-39 age bracket, and the tours are designed to be just as welcoming whether you're travelling alone or with someone.

  • Do I need to be single to join an 18-30s tour?

No — these tours are about the age group and travel style, not relationship status. Couples and friends travelling together are just as welcome as solo travellers.

  • How big are the groups?

Group sizes vary by tour and destination, but they're kept deliberately small so you get a proper local experience and it's easy to get to know everyone in your group. You'll find the exact group size listed on each individual tour page.

  • How much free time will I have?

Our itineraries strike a balance between guided activities and free time. You'll have a local expert showing you the highlights and taking care of logistics, plus time built in to explore independently, try local food on your own, or just relax.

  • Can I extend my trip before or after the tour?

Yes, in most cases. If you'd like to add extra nights before or after your tour, or extend your trip to see more of the region, get in touch with our team and we can help you build that in.
