Europe Group Tours for Solo Travellers
Europe is one of the easiest places in the world to travel solo — well-connected, welcoming, and packed with more variety per mile than almost anywhere else on earth. Whether you want to properly get to know one country or link several together on a multi-country itinerary (often by train), our small group tours are built to make travelling alone here easy, social, and completely hassle-free.
Our Europe range covers everything from island-hopping in Greece and food-and-wine trips through Italy, to multi-country adventures that string together several destinations in one trip. If you'd rather travel with people closer to your own age, we also offer a range of 18-30s tours across many of these same destinations — so however you want to experience Europe, there's a group that fits.
It's also one of our most popular regions for solo travellers: typically 60% or more of the people who book onto our Europe tours are travelling solo, and the majority are women. You'll be joining a small group of like-minded travellers, led by a local guide, with plenty of structure to keep things easy and plenty of free time to explore in your own way.
Hassle-free from booking to departure
We handle the logistics — accommodation, guides, and most of the planning — so all you need to do is show up and travel. There's no requirement to know anyone before you arrive; you'll meet your group on day one and take it from there.
Accommodation made simple
On most tours, solo travellers are paired with another traveller of the same sex to share a room at no extra cost. If you'd rather have your own room, you can usually add this for a supplement — just let us know when booking and we'll check availability.
Small groups, real connections
Group sizes vary by tour but are always kept small enough that you'll get to know everyone properly. With a large share of the group also travelling solo, it's a genuinely easy way to make friends fast, whatever your age or background.
Choose your style
Some of our Europe tours are single-destination, giving you more time to properly explore one country. Others are multi-country itineraries, often making use of European rail routes to link several destinations in one trip. And if you want a group of fellow 18-30-somethings, that's an option too — browse the tours below to find the shape that suits you.
How many other solo travellers will be on my trip?
It varies by tour, but solo travellers typically make up the majority of the group — often 60% or more — and most of these are women. You'll rarely be the only one travelling alone.
Will I have to share a room?
By default, solo travellers are paired with someone of the same sex to share a room at no extra cost. If you'd prefer your own room, this is usually available for a supplement, subject to availability — just let us know when you book.
How do I meet the rest of the group?
You'll typically meet everyone in person on day one, often at a welcome meeting at your accommodation. Your guide will be there to introduce everyone and get the trip started.
Is there free time to explore on my own, or is it fully guided the whole time?
Every itinerary mixes guided activities with free time. You're never obligated to spend every moment with the group — plenty of solo travellers use the free time to explore independently, then reconnect with the group later.
Is it safe to travel solo on one of these tours?
Small group tours are one of the most reassuring ways to travel solo, since you're never navigating a new country entirely on your own. You'll have a local guide throughout, a group to explore with, and support on hand if anything comes up.
Do I need travel insurance?
Yes, travel insurance is required for all our tours. It's your responsibility to arrange cover before travelling, and your guide may ask to see your policy details at the start of the trip.
Can I choose a group of people closer to my own age?
Yes — alongside our general Europe tours (which attract a broad mix of ages), we offer a dedicated range of 18-30s tours across many of the same destinations, for solo travellers who'd rather travel with people in a similar age bracket.
If you're older and prefer an extra level of comfort, our premium tours generally attract travellers aged between 50-70 and come with upgraded accommodation, private transport and exclusive experiences.
Which European countries are best for solo travel?
Popular choices for solo travellers include Italy and Greece for their mix of culture and coastline, Croatia for its coastline and nightlife, and Central European multi-country routes for travellers who want to cover more ground in one trip. The right choice really depends on whether you want to go deep on one country or sample several.
Is Europe safe for solo female travellers?
Europe is generally considered one of the more straightforward regions for solo female travel. As with travelling anywhere, it's sensible to research the specific areas on your itinerary and take normal precautions, and travelling as part of a small group tour adds an extra layer of reassurance.
Do I need multiple currencies for a multi-country Europe trip?
Often not — most of the EU uses the euro, so many multi-country itineraries only require one currency. If your route includes non-euro countries (the UK, Switzerland, or parts of the Balkans, for example), this will be flagged on the individual tour page.
How do multi-country tours get you between destinations?
It varies by tour, but several of our multi-country Europe itineraries are built around train travel, giving you the classic Interrail-style experience of moving between countries by rail, with all the logistics and connections planned for you.
Do I need a visa to travel around Europe?
Most UK passport holders don't need a visa for short stays in the Schengen Area, though this can vary depending on your nationality and the specific countries on your itinerary. It's worth checking current entry requirements for each country you'll be visiting before you travel.
What's the best time of year for solo travel in Europe?
Late spring and early autumn (May–June and September) tend to offer a good balance of pleasant weather and smaller crowds across most of Europe. July and August are peak season, especially for beach destinations, while winter suits city breaks and Christmas markets in Central Europe.
Will language be a barrier if I'm travelling without anyone who speaks the local language?
Not really — your guide will handle the parts where language matters most (accommodation, transport, local logistics), and English is widely spoken in most tourist areas across Europe. It's still worth learning a few basic phrases for each country, but it's not something solo travellers need to worry about.
