Earth Hour is at 8.30pm GMT on March 30th this year. In today's technological society an hour without technology can seem like an eternity. All the more reason to take part in Earth Hour this year. Below we have some ideas on how you can spend the hour. Perhaps it will inspire you to spend more time without technology or electricity. Switch off, light some candles and think about how you can make the world a greener place.
Go stargazing
As Earth Hour is after sunset, if you're lucky enough to live outside all the city lights, go outside and enjoy looking up at the stars. If you do live in the city, why not plan a last minute getaway, even if it's just taking the train a few stops to a new park. Relax and enjoy.
Read a book
You might need some light for this, but if you can read by a fireplace or candles, take the time to enjoy without any distractions coming from your phone.
Go for a walk
Call a friend and go for a long walk to really catch up. Gaze at the stars and enjoy nature and each other's company.
Do some yoga
Find some zen by practising yoga or meditation in the dark or with loads of candles. You don't need electricity for this and at the end of the hour, you'll feel rejuvenated and ready to continue that digital detox.
Host a candlelit dinner with friends
Why not host a potluck this Saturday with friends and candles? Ask each friend to bring a dish and a candle and enjoy each other's company instead of posting it on social media.
Write a journal on how you can take some steps to reduce your carbon footprint
No time like Earth Hour to start journaling. See Earth Hour as a New Years Eve for the environment and reflect and write down what you can do this year to use less plastic, petrol etc.
