Summary

Journey into southern Morocco on a 4 day desert tour packed with dramatic scenery and cultural highlights. Cross the High Atlas via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass, visit the famous Ait Benhaddou Kasbah and travel through Skoura to the rugged Dades Valley. Continue to the towering Todra Gorges before reaching the golden dunes of Merzouga for a sunset camel trek and overnight in a traditional desert camp. The return route winds through Alnif, Nkob and the lush Draa Valley to Ouarzazate, before crossing the scenic Ounila Valley and Telouet in the Atlas Mountains.

Itinerary

  • Day 1

    Marrakech to Dades Valley

    Marrakech - Ait Ben Haddou - Ouarzazate - Skoura - Dades Valley. Once you have arrived in Marrakech, you will be collected from the airport or your hotel, and we begin our journey towards the High Atlas Mountains. We travel across the Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2,260 m), enjoying views of dramatic mountain landscapes and traditional Berber villages along the way.

    We arrive at the historic ksar of Ait Ben Haddou, one of Morocco’s most famous fortified villages. Here we explore the kasbahs before you have free time to enjoy lunch at a local restaurant near the foothills of the ksar.

    In the afternoon, we continue to Skoura along the well-known Route of a Thousand Kasbahs. Here we visit Kasbah Amridil, a beautifully preserved kasbah set within the palm groves and one of the region’s most iconic historic buildings.

    After our visit we continue to Boumalne Dades.This evening we enjoy dinner, and we spend the night in a traditional kasbah hotel in the Dades Valley.

  • Day 2

    Journey to the Merzouga Dunes

    Dades Valley - Tinghir - Todra Gorges - Erfoud - Merzouga. This morning, we depart the Dades Valley and travel towards Tinghir, known for its vast palm groves and traditional Berber villages. We continue to the spectacular Todra Gorges, where dramatic canyon walls rise high above the river. Here you can enjoy the remarkable scenery and take a short walk through the palm plantations along the Todra River.

    We then continue to Tinjdad, where you have free time to enjoy lunch at a local restaurant.

    In the afternoon, we travel through several villages, including Touroug and El Jarf, before arriving in Erfoud. Here we visit a local fossil craft workshop, where artisans shape fossils found in the surrounding desert into decorative pieces.

    From here we continue to the impressive dunes of Erg Chebbi, also known as the Merzouga dunes. On arrival at the hotel, we prepare for a camel trek of around one and a half hours across the dunes, timed to enjoy the sunset.

    Riding on the back of your dromedary, we make our way to the desert camp set among the dunes. Tonight we stay in a traditional nomadic-style tent. Dinner is included, and we spend the night at a bivouac in the heart of the Sahara.

  • Day 3

    Sahara Sunrise & Draa Valley Journey

    Merzouga - Alnif - Nkob - Tazarine - Agdez - Ouarzazate. Early this morning, you wake before dawn to climb the dunes and enjoy the beautiful sunrise over the Sahara. After taking in the views, you walk back down and ride camels across the dunes to return to the hotel.

    We then continue our journey by 4WD towards Ouarzazate, travelling through Alnif and Tazarine before reaching the scenic Draa Valley, known for its long stretches of palm groves and historic caravan routes.

    Our route takes us across the rocky landscapes of the Ait Saoun mountains and through the Tizi n’Tnifift pass before arriving in Ouarzazate. Tonight, we stay in a hotel in Ouarzazate.

  • Day 4

    Atlas Mountains Journey to Marrakech

    Ouarzazate - Telouet - Marrakech. We make our way back to Marrakech, travelling through the spectacular Ounila Valley, known for its striking red landscapes and traditional Berber villages.

    We arrive at Telouet, home to one of Morocco’s most famous kasbahs. Here we explore the historic Telouet Kasbah, once the residence of the powerful Pacha El Glaoui, who ruled much of southern Morocco in the early 20th century.

    Afterwards, you have free time to enjoy lunch before we continue across the High Atlas Mountains. By late afternoon we arrive in Marrakech, where you will be dropped off at the airport or your accommodation, marking the end of the tour. Safe Travels!
