Itinerary

  • Day 1

Arrival in Kathmandu – Your Adventure Begins

Welcome to Nepal! Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, our friendly representative will warmly greet you and take care of all your travel needs from this point onwards.

You’ll be transferred to your hotel, where you can check in and settle down. To help you acclimatise, we recommend taking a short walk around the hotel or exploring a bit of Kathmandu’s vibrant atmosphere. During this time, our representative will confirm the details of tomorrow’s domestic flight to Lukla.

Important Note: During peak trekking seasons (Spring and Autumn), flights to Lukla typically operate from Manthali Airport, which is a 4-5 hour drive from Kathmandu. This may require an early start on Day 2.

    Elevation: Kathmandu 1,338m / 4,390ft Meals: None

  • Day 2

Fly to Lukla and Trek to Phakding

Begin your day with excitement as your adventure officially takes off! Depending on your flight time to Lukla, enjoy breakfast at the hotel or have it packed if you’re scheduled for an early departure. You’ll first be driven to the domestic airport for your scenic 35-minute flight to Lukla. For the best panoramic views, we recommend sitting on the left side of the plane.

Upon landing at the Lukla airstrip, you’ll meet the rest of the trekking team, including the porters who will rearrange the luggage. While this takes place, enjoy a refreshing cup of tea or coffee.

Your trekking guide will lead you through the National Luminary Pasang Lhamu Memorial Gate, marking the start of your epic journey to Everest Base Camp. After a brief stop at the police checkpoint for trail registration, the adventure continues.

After an hour’s walk, we’ll pause for lunch at Thado Koshi. Alternatively, if you prefer, we can trek a little further and enjoy lunch at the lodge in Phakding. Following the Dudh Koshi River, crossing suspension bridges, and taking occasional breaks for refreshing mango juice, we’ll arrive at Phakding.

At the teahouse, your guide will help allocate rooms. After some rest, feel free to explore the nearby monasteries and village or relax in the dining hall. Dinner is served at approximately 7:30 PM, followed by your first well-earned rest.

Accommodation: Teahouse with a private bathroom Included Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Elevation: Lukla 2,800m / 9,184ft; Phakding 2,652m / 8,700ft

  • Day 3

Trek from Phakding to Namche Bazaar - 12 km - 5-6 hours

As dawn breaks, begin your day with a hearty breakfast in the warmth of the dining hall. After packing your duffel bag and handing it over to the porter team, gear up for an exciting day of trekking. Following a briefing from your trek leader, you’ll set out on the trail, which winds through rocky forest paths adorned with rhododendron trees and charming views of local villages.

Along the way, you’ll pass cheerful children, caravan donkeys, and layers of scenic hills. The route takes you to the Sagarmatha National Park entrance gate, where the iconic stone steps and large mani stones mark your entry into this UNESCO World Heritage Site. The trail then descends to Jorsale, where you’ll pause for a well-deserved lunch.

After refuelling, prepare for the challenging uphill climb to Namche Bazaar. On this ascent, you’ll cross multiple suspension bridges, including the iconic Hillary Bridge. If the weather is clear, you’ll enjoy your first glimpse of Mount Everest shortly after crossing the bridge—a truly magical moment.

As the day progresses, the weather may shift, with clouds forming and a cool breeze picking up. Finally, you’ll arrive at the amphitheatre-style village of Namche Bazaar, the bustling heart of the Khumbu region. With its variety of hotels, lodges, restaurants, bakeries, shops, and ATMs, Namche offers both charm and convenience.

Your guide will lead you to your teahouse, where you can enjoy dinner and unwind. The cozy lodge, complete with warm dining areas and comfortable rooms, ensures a restful night’s sleep in preparation for the next day’s adventure.

Accommodation: Teahouse with a private bathroom Included Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Elevation: Namche Bazaar 3,440m / 11,280ft

  • Day 4

Acclimatisation and Exploration Day in Namche Bazaar

Today, the trek takes you above 3,000m for the first time, offering remarkable views and a chance to acclimatise to the altitude. Start the day basking in warm sunlight as you step out of the stone-paved entrance to Sagarmatha National Park. Shortly after, you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking views of Mount Thamserku, Mount Ama Dablam, and even Mount Everest in the distance.

This is one of the most visually rewarding days so far. You’ll visit a local museum, rich with cultural and natural history, before hiking up to the Everest View Hotel. This route passes the Syangboche airstrip and offers panoramic vistas of the surrounding Himalayan peaks.

Rather than carrying souvenirs to and from Everest Base Camp, it’s recommended to save shopping in Namche Bazaar for your return trip. Enjoy the rest of your day soaking in the Sherpa town’s unique atmosphere and preparing for the journey ahead.

After a hearty dinner at your Namche teahouse, you’ll retreat to your cozy room for a restful night’s sleep.

Accommodation: Teahouse with an attached bathroom Included Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Elevation: Namche Bazaar 3,440m / 11,280ft

  • Day 5

    Trek to Tengboche: A Day of Beauty & Tranquility - 12km - 5-6 hours

Start your day with a hearty breakfast before grabbing your trekking poles and setting out for Tengboche. Begin by tracing your steps around a large prayer wheel, following a relatively flat trail along the hillside. Along the way, enjoy captivating views of Mount Ama Dablam, one of the most picturesque peaks in the Himalayas.

The route takes you downhill through enchanting rhododendron forests. Recharge with snacks like chocolate and dried fruits as you approach a beautiful suspension bridge leading to your lunch stop at Phunki Thangka.

After a satisfying meal, gear up for the challenging ascent to Tengboche. The steep, forested trail can be strenuous, but the sense of achievement and the stunning views at the top make it all worthwhile. Upon reaching Tengboche, you’ll check into a nearby teahouse, where your guide will provide room keys and offer time to rest.

Take the opportunity to visit the renowned Tengboche Monastery, the largest and oldest monastery in the Khumbu region. This spiritual hub, rebuilt in 1989 after a fire, exudes a peaceful ambiance, and you might even catch monks playing football in the monastery grounds. Don’t miss the chance to indulge in freshly baked treats at the nearby bakery.

End the day with a relaxing evening at the teahouse dining hall before retiring for the night, ready for the next leg of your Himalayan adventure.

Accommodation: Teahouse Included Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Elevation: Tengboche 3,860m / 12,664ft

  • Day 6

Trek to Dingboche: A Journey Through Stunning Landscapes - 11km - 5-6 hours

The day begins with enthusiasm as you trek through serene yak pastures. Initially, the path descends gently, leading you through the peaceful forested area of Deboche. After crossing the Imja Khola via a traditional wooden bridge, the trail takes a steeper ascent toward Pangboche, a picturesque village offering breathtaking views of the Himalayas and surrounding landscapes.

Pangboche is home to numerous teahouses and lodges, providing an ideal spot for a short break and a refreshing drink. After the pause, the journey continues along a rocky, dusty, and windy trail as you head higher into the mountains. Along the way, you'll feel the increasing altitude and may notice stronger winds—stay hydrated and nourished to acclimatise effectively.

The trail leads to a lunch stop in Pangboche, where you can recharge before tackling the afternoon stretch. The ascent becomes more challenging as you cross several hills, but the sight of your teahouse in Dingboche from a distance brings a sense of joy and accomplishment.

As you approach Dingboche, you’ll pass chortens, horse stables, and small shops offering local goods and services. This charming village, surrounded by towering peaks, will be your home for the night.

Accommodation: Teahouse Included Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Elevation: Dingboche 4,410m / 14,470ft

  • Day 7

Acclimatization day at Dingboche: Acclimatization hike to Nagarjun Hill (5,100 m/16,728 ft): 6km/4-5 hours

Wake up to stunning Himalayan views from your hotel room. After a hearty breakfast, we'll gear up for an acclimatization hike to Nagarjun Hill. Alternatively, for a more challenging hike, we can opt for Chukkung, which offers close-up views of Ama Dablam, Lhotse, Island Peak, and other snow-capped peaks.

Either way, we'll ascend to higher elevations and return to our lodge in Dingboche for a good night's rest. This active acclimatization day will help prepare us for the days ahead.

Accommodation: Teahouse Included Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Elevation: 5,100 meters

  • Day 8

Trek from Dingboche to Lobuche (4,910 m/16,105 ft) :12km/5-6 hours

After breakfast, we'll begin a steep ascent to Dingboche Hill. Our guide will lead us along gradual trails for about an hour or two until we reach Dughla for lunch. Along the way, we'll enjoy stunning views of the Himalayas on our southern side and cross a pass leading to Cho La.

We'll traverse rocky mountain trails and crystal-clear rivers to reach Dughla, where we'll fuel up with a hearty lunch at one of the two restaurants.

After lunch, we'll tackle a steep climb to the top of the hill, where we'll be rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views of the Himalayas. We'll also see a memorial honoring those who lost their lives climbing Mount Everest.

From there, we'll enjoy a more gradual walk for about an hour, offering views of Lobuche Peak. Finally, we'll arrive at our lodge in Lobuche.

Accommodation: Teahouse Included Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Elevation: 4,910 meters

  • Day 9

Trek from Lobuche to Gorakshep to EBC and return Gorakshep - 12km - 8-9 hours

Today is the most important day of our trek. We'll begin with a gradual, rocky uphill climb to Gorakshep, which can be challenging and unstable. Use your trekking poles for stability and take careful steps to avoid slips and injuries.

Once we reach Gorakshep, we'll check into a lodge, rest, enjoy a meal, and prepare for the final push to Everest Base Camp. The trail to Base Camp is narrow and unstable, so your guide will ensure your safety throughout the journey.

Remember to protect yourself from the strong wind, direct sunlight, and extreme cold. Once at Base Camp, take a moment to appreciate the incredible achievement of standing at the foot of the world's highest peak. Admire the stunning views of the Khumbu Glacier, the Ice Fall, and Mount Everest. Take photos, celebrate, and soak in this unforgettable moment.

We'll then retrace our steps back to Gorakshep for dinner and an overnight stay at a local lodge.

Accommodation: Teahouse Included Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Elevation: 5,364 m

  • Day 10

Trek from Gorakshep to Kalapatthar and descend to Pheriche - 12km -6-7 hours

We'll wake up very early, around 4 AM, to catch the stunning sunrise over Mount Everest from Kalapatthar. Your guide will wake you if you prefer a wake-up call.

Gear up with your trekking shoes, poles, a water bottle, camera, and some snacks. The ascent to Kalapatthar is steep and in the dark, so careful steps with a headlamp are essential. As you climb, listen for the gurgling sound of ice cracking off Nuptse. Once at the top, you'll witness the magical sunrise, transforming the snow-capped Himalayas into golden peaks.

Remember to dress warmly, as Kalapatthar is very cold. Wear gloves and cover your entire body. Consider drinking hot garlic soup a few times a day in Gorakshep to help combat altitude sickness.

After the breathtaking sunrise, we'll descend back to Gorakshep and spend the night at a local lodge.

Accommodation: Teahouse Included Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Elevation: 4,210 m

  • Day 11

Pheriche to Namche Bazaar at -15km - 6 hours

We'll start our return trek early in the morning, retracing our steps back to Namche from Pheriche. The journey will be mostly downhill, with a few short uphill sections. As we descend, we'll notice that breathing becomes easier due to the lower altitude. We'll gain new perspectives on familiar sights along the trail.

Once in Namche, we can purchase souvenirs, take a shower, and relax our tired muscles. After a long day of trekking, we'll arrive in Namche in the late afternoon and spend the night at a teahouse with an attached bathroom.

Accommodation: Teahouse with attached bathroom. Included Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner. Elevation: 3,440 meters

  • Day 12

Trek from Namche Bazaar to Lukla: 19km - 6-7 hours

Today is our celebration day! We'll trek back to Lukla, crossing Phakding and several river tributaries. As we enjoy the fresh Himalayan air, let's take a moment to celebrate our successful trek with our guides, porters, and the entire team. • I booked my EBC trip through Adventure People that align with Icicles in Nepal. My trip with Icicles was absolutely brilliant. The guides Santosh, Sudip and Sandip were the best - between their patience, knowledge, enthusiasm and expertise on the mountain. Indira who was our main contact in Nepal was beyond helpful too. Would highly recommend this.

Frequently asked questions

  • How fit for Everest Base Camp do I need to be?

Most people of average fitness will be able to manage to trek to Everest Base Camp but some training is required. The trek is challenging. The terrain is tough and of course you're at a high altitude. Although you'd be carrying a day pack only you'd still need to ensure you're ready. It's a bit like a marathon in that sense, the more training you do the easier it is. If you have any medical conditions or any physical concerns you should see your doctor and ask their advise. People from the ages of 18 to well over 70 or 80 have managed the trek but of course, everyone is different and so everyone needs to assess themselves.
  • Will I need any vaccinations?

It's best to check with your local health authority. In the UK the latest information can be found here: https://www.fitfortravel.nhs.uk/destinations/asia-east/nepal
  • When is the best time to visit?

We recommend Spring or Autumn. The reason being it's relatively dry (you can still experience rain), relatively warm, certainly warmer than the winter months and not too hot. The conditions are important as getting to EBC is no walk in the park! In spring you are likely to see peak expeditions which normally aim to summit around May, and in autumn the skies are generally the clearest of the year.
  • How many people are in each group?

Group sizes range from 1 to 16. Most sit somewhere around 10 people.
  • Why should I choose this Everest Base Camp trek provider?

This operator is female owned, Nepali owned and prides themselves on personal service ''Customers will not feel they are treated like a customer, but like a friend or a family. If they need assistance for other things besides the trip they are booked in, they can ask us or our guides for help. We go over and above to help our clients''. It is exceptional value for money, includes all meals on trek which is unusual and also a great 4 star hotel in Kathmandu. 5% of this trips cost goes directly to training the next generation of female guides in Nepal.
  • What should I pack?

There is a full packing list in the brochure, you can download this on this page!
