Itinerary
Day 1
Arrival in San José
Welcome to Costa Rica! Upon arrival at Juan Santamaría International Airport, you’ll be met by a local driver and transferred to your hotel in the Central Valley. Surrounded by lush green hills and volcanic peaks, this peaceful area is the perfect place to relax after your journey and prepare for your upcoming adventure.

Day 2
San José to Boca Tapada via Poás Volcano
After breakfast, a rental car representative will meet you at your hotel and hand over your 4×4 vehicle. Once briefed, set off towards northern Costa Rica. Stop at Poás Volcano National Park, where you'll peer into one of the largest active craters in the world. Continue through scenic backroads past volcanic crater lakes like Laguna de Hule, before arriving at the remote jungle region of Boca Tapada, a haven for birdwatchers and naturalists.

Day 3
Boca Tapada to La Fortuna (Arenal Volcano)
Enjoy a relaxing morning in the rainforest. Boca Tapada is known as a nesting area for the rare Great Green Macaw and home to a variety of trails through lush, tropical jungle. Later, head south through pineapple plantations and agricultural valleys to the Arenal Volcano area. Your hotel offers incredible views of both the volcano and Lake Arenal.

Day 4
La Fortuna to Rincón de la Vieja
This morning, enjoy one of La Fortuna’s highlights — the Arenal Hanging Bridges, a network of suspended walkways through primary rainforest. Afterward, continue west in your 4×4, possibly using some adventurous backroads (weather permitting). Enjoy views of Lake Arenal, and pass volcanic landscapes near Miravalles and Tenorio before reaching your eco-lodge near Rincón de la Vieja Volcano.

Day 5
Rincón de la Vieja to Tamarindo
Spend the morning walking trails in Rincón de la Vieja National Park, where you can spot bubbling mud pools, steaming fumaroles, and possibly monkeys in the forest canopy. After your hike, head toward the coast. This afternoon you'll reach Tamarindo, a lively Pacific beach town known for its surf and sunsets.

Day 6
Tamarindo to Sámara via Route 160

End your day in the chilled-out town of Sámara, famous for its calm bay and golden sands — perfect for a sunset stroll.

Day 7
Sámara to Paquera

End your day in Paquera, a hilltop village with beautiful sea views.

Day 8
Paquera to San José (via Ferry) & Departure
After breakfast, board the Paquera–Puntarenas ferry, crossing the Gulf of Nicoya with stunning coastal views. On arrival in Puntarenas, continue driving through the Central Valley, return your 4×4, and enjoy a private transfer to the airport for your onward flight.
