Frequently asked questions

  • Is driving a 4×4 vehicle in Costa Rica difficult?

Not at all! This trip is designed for adventurous travellers with standard driving experience. While some rural roads may be unpaved or require river crossings, your 4×4 (e.g. Toyota Fortuner) is equipped for the terrain, and you'll receive full vehicle guidance on arrival.
  • What type of vehicle is included in the package?

A comfortable and reliable Toyota Fortuner or similar 4WD SUV is included for Day 2–Day 8, with unlimited mileage. It’s ideal for tackling the diverse terrain and provides plenty of space for passengers and luggage.
  • Do I need special insurance for the rental car?

Yes – basic car insurance is included, but we strongly recommend adding full coverage (available at vehicle pickup) for peace of mind. Always check what is covered and if you need extra insurance for river crossings or rural roads.
  • When is the best time of year for this trip?

Costa Rica is a year-round destination, but the dry season (December to April) is most popular. The green season (May to November) brings lush landscapes and fewer crowds — ideal for adventurous travellers.
  • Is this trip suitable for families with children?

Yes! This itinerary is great for families with kids aged 8 and up, especially those who enjoy nature and adventure. Lodges are family-friendly and the self-drive element allows you to move at your own pace.
  • Are meals included in the trip cost?

Breakfast is included daily. Other meals are not included, giving you the freedom to try local restaurants or eat at your hotel. Many stops offer a range of dining options, from traditional sodas to beachside cafes.
  • Can I customise the itinerary?

Absolutely. This itinerary is fully customisable — we can add extra nights, adjust destinations, or swap out activities to suit your preferences. Just let us know!
  • Is a guide included during the trip?

This is a self-guided tour, but you’ll receive full 24/7 support from our bilingual local team throughout your journey. Guided activities are included at select stops (e.g., Poás Volcano and hanging bridges).
  • Is a visa required to visit Costa Rica?

For most travellers from the UK, EU, USA, Canada, and Australia, no visa is required for stays under 90 days. However, always check current entry requirements before travelling.
  • Are airport transfers included?

Yes. Private airport transfers are included on Day 1 (arrival) and Day 8 (departure) to ensure a seamless beginning and end to your adventure.
