Day 2
Exploring Athens & the Acropolis
After breakfast, we embark on a half day Athens sightseeing tour. This tour offers a chance to observe the striking contrasts that make Athens a captivating city. We head out at 8:00 with our expert guide, stopping first at the Panathenaic Stadium, the site of the first modern Olympic Games, where we will have a brief stop. As we continue, we will pass by significant landmarks such as the Prime Minister's residence (formerly the Royal Palace), guarded by the Evzones in their colourful uniforms, the Temple of Olympian Zeus, Hadrian's Arch, the Parliament and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the Academy of Athens, the University, the National Library, and Constitution Square (Syntagma).
No tour of Athens is complete without a visit to the Acropolis, a world-famous site and symbol of democracy in the Western world. Here, you will explore the architectural masterpieces of the Golden Age of Pericles, including the Propylaea, the Temple of Athena Nike, the Erechtheion, and, of course, the Parthenon - a place where "there is harmony between material and spirit," a monument that "restores order in the mind," as the ancient Greeks used to say. The tour ends at around 13:30 and the rest of the day is at leisure in the Greek capital.
