You will be picked up from your hotel in Arenal and be driven to the Lake Arenal dam, where you will board a covered boat. This is where the scenic 45-minute cruise across the lake begins. Next, you will begin the impressive 1.5-hour journey up the mountainside on a steep road offering stunning views of the lush, green valley. You will be driven directly to your Monteverde area hotel.

You will fly through the treetops listening closely to the vast variety of birds that can be seen throughout the reserve. Then, just when you think you have become one with the canopy the tour ends with an exhilarating rappel down from the “Scary Tree”. The tour has 14 cables, 17 platforms, 1 rappel, and 1 Tarzan swing.

  • Day 10

Transfer to Manuel Antonio Beach with Tarcoles Safari Boat

This morning, you'll have a transfer to the Manuel Antonio area. On the way, you will have a safari boat tour at Tarcoles River. This is a great way to break up the long, 5-hour drive from Monteverde to Manuel Antonio Beach because you are bound to see a multitude of wildlife including the famous, huge, 20-ft American crocodiles that inhabit the Carara Biological Reserve area of the Tarcoles River.

Keep your eyes peeled for a rare sighting of the Scarlet Macaw and over fifty other species of birds you can see there. Your guide will point out the often difficult-to-see wildlife along this two-hour boat tour of the Tarcoles River and into the Guacalillo Mangrove Estuary. A delicious lunch is included at the end of the boar tour.

Rediscover what it means to have free time, and then spend it with your favorite people.

  • Day 11

    Manuel Antonio

Today you will have a guided walk in Manuel Antonio National Park.

Frequently asked questions

  • Do I need a visa for Costa Rica?

Depending on your country of origin, you may enter Costa Rica without a visa. USA, Canada and most European countries enjoy this privilege. Please check current information with your local embassy or foreign office.
  • Are credit cards accepted in Costa Rica?

All major credit cards are widely accepted. ATM machines are located throughout the country.
  • Do I need an adaptor?

Outlets are 110 V, with standard US two prong plugs.
  • How much money do I need?

To give you an idea of what to expect, here are some average price: a typical lunch or dinner costs around $6-8 at an affordable local restaurant (or “soda” as they called in Costa Rica) or up to $20-40 or more at a formal restaurant. Beer or basic mixed drinks come at about $2-3 at a typical bar or restaurant, and double or more at a luxury hotel or posh restaurant. Taxi rates are cheap compared to tickets in U.S. cities. A trip within a town like San Jose that is only 2 or 3 kilometres will cost between $2 and $6, depending on local traffic (which can be significant in downtown San Jose). Other services like Uber are also available, and the fares are usually lower and they are also considered to be safer than taxis. When taking a taxi, always get the official red taxi with yellow triangle!
  • What does Pura Vida mean?

Pura Vida literally translates to “pure life” and it’s a way of life in Costa Rica. It’s used in every situation and practically every conversation. Pura vida means to live life as stress-free as possible and let things go. It’s also used as “thank you”, “you’re welcome”, “hello”, “good bye” and much more.
  • Can I bring a suitcase?

You can, but we would suggest a soft holdall or backpack would be easier. There is a boat transfer included and you would typically have to carry your bag onboard yourself, although the drivers and crew will normally offer to help if your bag is heavy!
