Itinerary
Day 1
Cape Town
Welcome to Cape Town! On arrival, you will be met and transferred to the hotel. The rest of your first day in South Africa is at leisure - perhaps head down to the nearby V&A Waterfront for a bite to eat.
Day 2
Exploring Cape Town & Table Mountain
This morning, we head out on a guided tour of Cape Town. We begin at the city's natural highlight, by riding the cable car to the summit of Table Mountain. From the summit, there's time to hike along some of the walking trails, and admire the view back over the city and the coast. Please note that the cost of the cable car is not included in the price of your tour.
Returning to the city, we'll visit the district of Bo Kaap, known for its cobbled streets and multi-coloured houses. We also take in one of the city's largest green spaces, the Company Gardens and we browse the offerings at Vibrant Greenmarket Square. We'll also take a short driving tour of some of the city's highlights, including the Castle of Good Hope, City Hall, Grand Parade and Adderley Street.
After the tour, you'll have the rest of the day free to continue exploring Cape Town independently.
Day 3
Cape Peninsula Tour
Today, we are heading out on an included guided excursion to the Cape Peninsula. Highlights include the famous penguin colony at Boulders Beach, the most south-western tip of Africa at the Cape of Good Hope and the dramatic scenery of the False Bay Coastal Road, where it's sometimes possible to see whales from the shore. We'll also see the Twelve Apostles at Maidens Cove, visit the busy fishing harbour of Houts Bay and stop at the naval base of Simon's Town. The tour ends back in Cape Town, with your evening free to head out and find somewhere serving good bobotie for dinner.
Day 4
Cape Winelands Tour
Today's guided tour takes us into the stunning Cape Winelands. We'll head out from the hotel into a world of rolling vineyards, towering mountain peaks and Dutch style architecture, all only 45 minutes from Cape Town. The region is home to popular settlements including Stellenbosch, Franschhoek and Paarl, as well as more than 150 wineries producing some of the world's finest wine. Included in the tour are three separate wine tastings, as well as your choice of a chocolate or cheese pairing. We'll explore Stellenbosch and Franschhoek, take in the impressive Paarl Rock and visit the Huguenot Monument, commemorating the Huguenot settlers of the 1680s who had a big impact on wine production in the region. It's back to Cape Town for the night.
Day 5
Cape Town at Leisure
After a busy few days of sightseeing, today is completely yours to do as much or as little as you like in Cape Town. We're leaving the city tomorrow, so if you've been itching to sky dive, paraglide, quad bike, explore Robben Island or go shark cage diving then today is the day!
Day 6
Cape Town to Hoedspruit
Cape Town - Hoedspruit - Moditlo Private Game Reserve. It's time to leave Cape Town behind as you are transferred to the airport for your flight north to Hoedspruit. On arrival, you will be collected and transferred to our safari lodge in the Moditlo Private Game Reserve. This reserve, in the famous Greater Kruger ecosystem, teems with wildlife, and is particularly known for its elephant herds. Covering more than 36,000 acres, it connects with Kruger National Park and is located at the foot of the Drakensberg Mountains.
Enjoy lunch at the lodge and some time to freshen up before we head out for an included afternoon game drive, accompanied by Moditlo's expert guides and wildlife trackers. We hope to spot some of the iconic Big Five: lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and buffalo. Don't worry if we don't see everything today, we've got plenty more safari opportunities coming up! Dinner is included tonight, back at the lodge.
Please note: The flight from Cape Town to Hoedspruit is not included in the cost of your tour. There are daily direct flights, and you can book any morning flight that arrives around lunchtime. Please provide us with your flight details once you have booked this flight. Alternatively you can book a road transfer add-on, with the option of a public shuttle bus transfer or a private transfer.
Day 7
Kruger Safari
The next two days are spent on safari in Moditlo Private Game Reserve. A typical day at the lodge begins with an early morning start, so we can get out into the reserve to try to spot the nocturnal species like leopards, before they head off to sleep for the day. We get back to the lodge in time for breakfast, and you can then spend a few hours relaxing by the pool or enjoying optional activities such as a hot air balloon ride or a visit to a local rehabilitation centre for injured wildlife. It's also possible to head out and explore the the Panorama Route, regarded as one of the most scenic drives in the world as it passes along the Drakensberg Escarpment.
You will also enjoy afternoon game drives on each of the two days, with all meals included at the lodge.
Day 9
Hoedspruit to Johannesburg
Moditlo Private Game Reserve - Hoedspruit - Johannesburg. We enjoy a final game drive this morning, to see what we can spot. In total, you will have enjoyed six included game drives on this tour, giving you a great chance to spot some of the area's rarest and most elusive wildlife, including leopards and African Wild Dogs, one of the continent's most endangered predators.
You'll be transferred back to the Hoedspruit Airport for your flight to Johannesburg. On arrival, you will be collected and transferred to the hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure.
Please note: The flight from Hoedspruit to Johannesburg is not included in the cost of your tour.
Day 10
Exploring Johannesburg & Mandela's House
Our tour of Johannesburg begins with guided sightseeing of the city centre. We then continue to Soweto, an important place in the life of one key figure from South African history: Nelson Mandela. Today's tour includes a visit to the former South African president's house at 8115 Vilakazi St, Orlando West in Soweto. We also see the Hector Pieterson Memorial, which commemorates the role of the country’s students in the struggle against apartheid.
We end the day at the sobering but important Apartheid Museum. Here, you can learn more about the rise and fall of Apartheid in 20th century South Africa through various media including film and photographs, as well as well-preserved artefacts from the time. The final night of the tour is at leisure in Johannesburg.
Day 11
Johannesburg
Our tour comes to an end after breakfast and hotel check out. An included transfer takes you to the airport for your onward flight. Safe travels!
