Summary

Krakow & Ljubljana sound familiar? Probably not. That's because the Vienna to Rome Trail is about blazing a new trail. But just to keep things interesting we sandwich the obscure between hotspots like Venice & Vienna. It doesn't get much better than 9 brimming days to explore a lot of Europe.

Itinerary

  • Day 1

    Start Vienna

We'll arrive in Vienna full of excitement and ready for coffee & sachertorte, otherwise known as the world's greatest chocolate cake. Get to know your new travel squad over dinner tonight, and maybe a few schnaps, since we're in Austria after all.

  • Day 2

    Vienna to Krakow

Rise up travellers and start practicing your Polish pleasantries, we'll be in Krakow later today so they may come in handy.  It's onto the city of Krakow, which is now known for its salt mining heritage and tales of mythical dragons. Join an Orientation tour to get to know the city and it's historical hotspots. Tonight you'll have a free night to explore Kraków's vibrant food and nightlife scene.

  • Day 3

    Krakow

This morning we're up and on our way. Today we will change pace as we drop to an unfamiliar and sobering level by visiting the concentration camp memorials of Auschwitz & Birkenau. Learning and growing is what we travellers do after all. Back in the city, you'll have a free night. Don't miss the opportunity to enjoy a traditional Polish evening and try Pierogi, a Polish favourite - these dumplings are an absolute classic.

  • Day 4

    Krakow to Budapest

Alpine scenery and traditional villages will make our departure from Krakow more manageable. Particularly with the knowledge that we have Budapest coming up in the eve. Pastel painted and manicured to perfection, Banska Bystrica is a lunch break that will charm you to no end. Being in Slovakia, it's also your chance to brag 3 countries in one day - you crazy globetrotter you. Welcome to Hungary! Coming in at number 3 on our list of countries ticked off through the day. From the moment we arrive in the river split city, you'll understand why we needed a couple of nights here. Waste no time getting involved with Budapest by joining the optional river cruise and dinner.

  • Day 5

    Budapest

The day is yours to tackle Budapest however you see fit. After all the travelling we've done, you've probably earned yourself an afternoon soaking in one of the cities most famous thermal baths. Blissed out in Budapest - there's an insta caption for you. If gardens, fountains, pools and ruins are the call of your day, put Margaret Island top and centre of your to do list.

  • Day 6

    Budapest to Ljubljana

This morning we say goodbye to the city of Budapest and head south to Slovenia! Though the name Ljubljana might not be as well known as Budapest, that doesn't diminish its delight as a European city. In fact, its undiscovered charm is all part of the fascination... Aesthetically wonderful and filled with youthful moods, Ljubljana is one to love for its off the tourist trail vibes and casual attitude. Without a list of monuments to tick off, you're free to get cozy in a cafe and lap up the endless local feels.

  • Day 7

    Ljubljana to Venice

Ever the advocates of a balanced holiday, today we're trading in the obscure for the globally adored hot spot of Venice. Whoop! Yes, it's as cute as you imagine. Yes, you'll feel like you're part of an Italian fairytale. Yes, you are actually hanging out in the gondola clad floating city of Venice! A private Motoscafo ride, gothic architecture and a web of lanes to explore will keep your day filled quite nicely.

  • Day 8

    Venice to Rome

Farewell floating city, but Italy, we're not done with you yet, our next destination the Eternal City is just around the corner. This afternoon will really take it up a notch as we uncover Italian icons in the country's capital of Rome. Gelato, pizza, and ancient monuments galore, but why not try a pasta making class and cook a homemade meal for dinner? If that's not your style feel free to explore and get a glimpse of Rome's glory by night.

  • Day 9

    End Rome

The best week of your life has almost come to an end, hug it out after breakfast & make plans to reunite outside of Rome.

Customer reviews & ratings

  • My guide and driver were awesome! You need more of Claire and Will! Booking was easy, although I used a flight agent. I could see everything on the website. FTAs were really great.

  • Good trip, fast paced though. Great trip manager/driver, very helpful and welcoming even when we joined an already started trip. I'm familiar with the operator and other similar companies, so I kinda knew what to expect. I decided to give a try being a modular trip, I personally don't mind as my goal was not really to bond with the whole group, I took a tour as it was easier to move around between counties in a short time. But it's definitely different, as people have already 8 days bonding together so you can't be really be part of any of the small groups already created. There's no introduction with the whole group, you just join at a dinner (again, I don't mind as I'm not really into the "introduction games" that are usually on the coach when a trip starts, so this was good for me) but might be people that would like to know the whole group and have an ""official" intro. Having more time in cities would be good, as you spent many time on the bus and arrive late to cities (specially in winter, it's already dark) and sometimes have to leave the next morning. I'd prefer to leave very early (you can then sleep in the bus anyway) than to leave until 9:00 am, lose the day in the bus and arrive until is almost dark to the next destination. I'm a morning person, not a party one. Most cities visited were good, places to visit, included activities (except for the one in Slovenia- Ljubljana, a few hours in a city, at night, should not count as a country stop), hotel was far, needed too take a taxi back. It said it included a little walking tour, which we didn't do, as everyone else was doing the optional activity and they will know the city during it. But I didn't, so I was just drop-off to the center. Having more included activities would be good, the "best" ones are the add-ons, and still if you don't do them there's no always other options to use that time. The salt mine in Krakow, you'd have to wait in the bus if you decide not to to do it. In Slovenia, I did not do the add-on activity and just walked around town, which is small and at night when we arrived there's no much to do, and have to make your way back. Venice, I did not do the optional either, and even when I loved the city, after 7pm there's nothing else to do but to wait the people that did do the activity because we have t leave the island as a group. In Rome, you do not see the Vatican nor Colosseum as it mentions, it depends what day you arrive. In my your we did not go to the vatican and the colosseum we did not see it as it mentions in included activities. If you want to pay as add-on, to enter, that is until the last day at 9:30 am, it is worth it (however that's the day when this tour ends and were no planned activities, so some people already had flights that day and were not able to go. Good local guided at concentration camp and Budapest. Perfect/enough free time in Budapest and Venice (other cities not enough in my opinon). Loved that we have free wifi on the bus to plan your day on next destination. Did not like (and that's every tour) that you don't really get to see first and last city listed (and it counts as a country). you need and additional night before and after if want to know the city, on your own. I'd like you have "medical masks" for people who are sick, as they cough and sometimes don't cover their mouth, or even of the do if would help to prevent germs. People already in the trip have been sick for a week, so new people get sick almost immediately. Please improve accommodation, multiple share is already a down for me (double share is best), there's no room keys for everyone, some hotels are far from the center, very small rooms (the one in Krakow- Ibis hostel was double share and still suitcases barely fit, shower in inside the room, not inside the bathroom, and door is transparent, so how do you shower with the other person in the room?! awkward). No soap in Budapest hotel (I feel soap for washing your hands is kinda basic) I'm not 35 yet, but this is not my way of traveling anymore I guess, fast paced, parties, multi share hostels. So might be my last tour. Before and after my tour, I traveled by myself, and Europe is very travel-friendly, so I do recommend going by yourself if you don't feel like partying and staying in hostels.
