Summary
SEMI-INDEPENDENT TOUR: Discover the highlights of Turkey on this 8-day tour, beginning with guided sightseeing in Istanbul. Take in the underground cities and rock-cut churches of Cappadocia and spend three nights in Kusadasi, with included day trips to the Graeco-Roman ruins of Ephesus and the white cotton castles of Pamukkale. End your journey with an included flight back to Istanbul.
Itinerary
Day 1
Istanbul
Welcome to Turkey. An included transfer will take you from the airport to our hotel. Enjoy the rest of the day at your leisure in the hotel, or head out to begin your exploration.
Tour Style: On this tour you will enjoy sightseeing at all included sights with expert local guides, and all of your travel arrangements are included. You will travel without a tour guide between destinations.
Day 2
Istanbul Sightseeing
After enjoying breakfast at the hotel, we'll meet our guide in the hotel lobby at 9:00 and embark on a full-day city tour. Our first stop is Topkapi Palace, the former imperial residence of the Ottoman Empire, now a spectacular museum housing one of the largest collections of Chinese and Japanese porcelain and the famous Royal Family treasury. We continue to Hagia Sophia, a breathtaking Byzantine church renowned as one of the finest and largest architectural achievements in the world.
You’ll have free time for lunch before we visit the the Blue Mosque, a magnificent 17th-century architectural masterpiece and one of Istanbul's most iconic landmarks, renowned for its stunning blue tiles and six minarets. Next, we see the Hippodrome, once the centre of sports and political activities in Constantinople, where you can view the Egyptian Obelisk, the Serpentine Column from Delphi, and the Fountain of Wilhelm II.
The tour concludes at the Grand Bazaar, a historic market with an enticing array of precious handmade carpets, jewelry, leather goods, and souvenirs. After the tour, you'll be transferred back to our hotel.
Day 3
Istanbul to Cappadocia
Istanbul - Cappadocia. Early this morning, we will transfer from the hotel to the airport for our included flight east to Cappadocia. On arrival, you will meet our guide and embark on a full-day excursion, which includes visits to the Goreme Open Air Museum, Devrent Imagination Valley, Pasabag Monks Valley, and Avanos, with lunch included at a local restaurant. We'll also enjoy a panoramic view of Goreme. Following the tour, we'll then transfer to our cave hotel for the next two days, which is hewn into the rock face, with many of the guest rooms located in unique caves. Whilst in Cappadocia, an optional hot air balloon tour will be available, book and pay locally.
Day 4
Cappadocia
Our tour guide will meet you in the hotel lobby at 09:30 for another full day of exploring the fairytale landscapes and underground cities of Cappadocia. Highlights of today's tour include visits to Rose Valley, Pigeon Valley, and either Derinkuyu or Kaymakli Underground City. We'll enjoy lunch at a local restaurant, followed by stops at Ortahisar Village and Avanos Valley. After the tour, we'll be transferred back to the hotel for another night in Cappadocia.
Day 5
Cappadocia to Kusadasi
Cappadocia - Izmir - Kusadasi. You will be picked up from our hotel and transferred to Cappadocia Airport for your included flight to Izmir. Upon arrival in Izmir, you will be met and transferred to our hotel in Kusadasi, where you will stay overnight.
Day 6
Ephesus Day Trip
Kusadasi - Ephesus - Kusadasi. Our tour guide will meet you in the hotel lobby at 9:00 before we embark on a day trip to the Ephesus Ruins, the Fountains of Trajan and Polio, the Temples of Hadrian and Domitian, the Library of Celsus, the Bouleuterion, and the Great Theatre. We'll enjoy lunch at a local restaurant and also visit the House of the Virgin Mary. After the tour, we will return to our hotel in Kusadasi.
Day 7
Pamukkale Day Trip
Kusadasi - Pamukkale - Kusadasi. Our tour guide will meet you in the hotel lobby at 08:00 for a full-day tour to the white cotton castles and travertines of Pamukkale. We also visit the ancient Roman spa city of Hierapolis and enjoy lunch at a local restaurant. You will also have the chance to take a dip in the Hot Thermal Pools. After the tour, we will return to our hotel at approximately 18:00.
Day 8
Fly to Istanbul
Kusadasi - Izmir - Istanbul. After breakfast and hotel check out, transfer to Izmir Airport for your included flight to Istanbul. The tour concludes upon arrival, and you can proceed to the International Departures terminal to catch your international flight. Goodbye!
