Begin in Marrakech, taking in highlights like the Koutoubia Mosque and Djemaa el Fna. Explore the fortified kasbah and Game of Thrones filming locations at Ait Benhaddou, ride a camel in the Sahara Desert and spend a night at a desert camp. Crash over the dunes on a 4WD adventure, learn to make fresh tagine and visit the famous Atlas Film Studios in Ouarzazate. Stay with a local family in mountainous Imlil, enjoy a scenic hike and learn to surf in coastal Essaouira, before heading back to Marrakech.
Itinerary
Day 1
Marrakech
Welcome to Morocco! Upon arrival at Marrakech airport, our friendly driver will greet you and take you to our charming riad in the heart of the old city.
In the evening, we’ll enjoy a special welcome dinner at a traditional Moroccan restaurant near the iconic Djemaa el Fna square.
Please note: This tour stays in a mixture of hotels and hostels and is designed for younger travellers looking for a backpacker-style experience and to meet like-minded people. The average age on this tour is around 21 - 35, and we are unfortunately unable to take any travellers over the age of 45. Day 2
Exploring Marrakech
Today, we dive into the vibrant energy of Marrakech. Our expert guides will lead a full-day tour through the historic Medina, stopping at iconic landmarks such as Djemaa el Fna Square, the striking Koutoubia Mosque (viewed from the outside), the exquisite Bahia Palace, and the stunning Ben Youssef Madrasa.
The afternoon is yours to explore the bustling souks, haggle for treasures, or visit the renowned Henna Café. Be sure to savour a refreshing cup of traditional Moroccan mint tea - affectionately called “Berber whiskey.”
Day 3
Ait Benhaddou & Dades Gorge
Marrakech - Dades Gorge. It’s time for a road trip! Prepare for breathtaking views as we journey through the majestic High Atlas Mountains. Our first stop is the stunning village of Ait Benhaddou, famed for its appearance in Game of Thrones. Explore the ancient kasbah, snap some incredible photos, and enjoy a delicious lunch.
Afterwards, we’ll continue through the picturesque Rose Valley en route to Dades Valley. Arriving at a cosy hotel, we’ll settle in just in time to watch the sunset over this magical landscape.
Day 4
Todra Gorge, Camel Riding & Sahara Glamping
Dades Gorge - Todra Gorge - Erg Chebbi (Sahara Desert). We’re back on the road, heading to the majestic Sahara Desert with some incredible stops along the way. First, we’ll visit the quirky Monkey Toes rock formation in Dades Valley - a perfect photo opportunity. Next, we’ll explore the breathtaking Todra Valley and Gorges in Tinghir, a landscape so striking it feels like stepping into a painting.
From there, we’ll embark on a camel ride across the golden dunes of the Sahara, arriving at our desert camp for the night. Our unique glamping site, complete with cosy tents and a bonfire, sets the stage for an unforgettable evening of traditional Berber music under a canopy of stars. This will be a night to remember.
Day 5
Exploring the Sahara
Start your day early with a stunning sunrise near the camp, the perfect way to soak in the magic of the Sahara. After breakfast, we’ll embark on an exciting 4WD desert adventure.
First, we’ll visit nomadic families, gaining insight into their cattle-based lifestyle and enjoying a cup of traditional tea. Then, we’ll explore the enigmatic Mifiss Mines, a fascinating ghost town that was once a bustling coal mine. This journey offers a rare chance to delve into Morocco’s desert culture and history, making it an unforgettable adventure. We're staying in the Erg Chebbi area, but in a more traditional hotel tonight.
Day 6
Sahara to Ouarzazate
Erg Chebbi (Sahara Desert) - Ouarzazate. After breakfast at the hotel, we’ll visit the lively Rissani Market (selected departures only), a traditional bazaar with over 600 stalls and even a donkey parking lot. Take the opportunity to haggle with local vendors and pick up unique handicrafts, clothing, or jewellery.
Afterwards, we’ll hit the road, passing through the scenic Draa Valley before arriving in Ouarzazate for the night.
Day 7
Atlas Studios Tour & Imlil Homestay
Ouarzazate - Imlil. Start the day with fresh Moroccan coffee and breakfast before heading to the renowned Atlas Studios, the backdrop for films like The Mummy, Gladiator, and The Hills Have Eyes. A guided tour will unveil the secrets behind some iconic movie scenes.
Afterwards, we’ll journey through the breathtaking High Atlas Mountains, soaking in the dramatic scenery. By evening, we’ll reach the peaceful mountain village of Imlil, where a cozy homestay awaits.
Day 8
Atlas Hiking, Cooking Class & Essaouira
Imlil - Essaouira. Today kicks off with a scenic hike through the Atlas Mountains, offering stunning views of the landscape. For lunch, enjoy a hands-on cooking class with a local family, learning to prepare traditional Moroccan dishes. After savouring your delicious creations in a relaxed, family-style meal, we’ll leave the desert behind and head towards the coast. Our next destination is the charming seaside town of Essaouira.
Day 9
Essaouira Surfing, Sightseeing & Free Time
After breakfast, it’s time to catch some waves with a surf lesson at one of Morocco’s top surf spots. Next, we’ll explore Essaouira’s historic old town, including Skala de la Ville, the fishing port, and the bustling medina.
When hunger strikes, indulge in a fresh seafood lunch by the beach - Essaouira is renowned for its delicious seafood. The afternoon is yours to wander through this picturesque town before we gather for dinner and drinks at one of the famous rooftop restaurants, offering stunning views of the coast.
Day 10
Essaouira to Marrakech
Essaouira - Marrakech. After breakfast, we’ll head back to vibrant Marrakech, stopping at Amal Restaurant, a wonderful non-profit organization that empowers women through culinary training.
After the visit, you’ll have some free time to explore before our farewell dinner. It’s the perfect moment to reflect on the unforgettable experiences of the tour and raise a glass to the memories we’ve made.
Day 11
Marrakech
Our tour comes to an end after breakfast and check out. There is no airport transfer included but our tour guide can help you to make the arrangements.
