Summary

Travel from Marrakech to Marrakech on this 8-day tour through southern Morocco, combining desert landscapes, coastal towns and historic kasbahs. The journey crosses the High Atlas Mountains to the famous kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou and continues to Ouarzazate before heading deep into the Sahara near Mhamid for a night in a traditional desert camp. The route then leads through Taroudant and on to the Atlantic coast, with time to relax in Agadir and the laid-back seaside town of Essaouira. The final days return to vibrant Marrakech, where historic palaces, lively souks and the bustling Jemaa el-Fnaa square provide a memorable finish.

Itinerary

  • Day 1

    Arrival in Marrakech

    Once you have arrived at Marrakech Airport, you will be met and transferred to your accommodation in Marrakech. Your driver will be waiting at the airport exit holding a sign with your name.

    After settling in, you will have the rest of the day at leisure to grab a meal, explore the city or relax.

  • Day 2

    Marrakech to Ouarzazate

    Marrakech - Ait Ben Haddou - Ouarzazate. Today, we depart Marrakech and begin our journey towards Ouarzazate. As we travel through the High Atlas Mountains, we make several stops to enjoy the impressive landscapes and see traditional Berber villages along the way.

    We then visit the famous village of Ait Ben Haddou, known for its remarkable kasbah. This historic fortified village has been used as a filming location for many well-known productions, including Game of Thrones and Lawrence of Arabia.

    After exploring Ait Ben Haddou, we continue to Ouarzazate where we head to our accommodation and spend the night.

  • Day 3

    Ouarzazate to Erg Chegaga Desert

    Ouarzazate - Zagara - Mhamid El Ghizlane - Erg Chegaga. This morning, we leave Ouarzazate and travel towards the Sahara Desert at Erg Chegaga. Along the way, we pass through the Anti-Atlas Mountains and the Draa Valley, a region famous for its thousands of palm trees and oasis landscapes.

    As we continue, we reach Tinfou, where the first dunes of the Sahara begin to appear. We then arrive at Mhamid El Ghezlan, the gateway to the desert, where our 4x4 vehicle is waiting to take us on an adventure into the vast dunes of Erg Chegaga.

    After crossing the desert, we arrive at our Berber camp in Erg Lihoudi. In the evening, we enjoy a traditional Moroccan dinner and listen to Berber Gnawa music under the desert stars before spending the night at our accommodation in the camp.

  • Day 4

    Erg Chegaga to Taroudant

    Erg Chegaga - Mhamid El Ghizlane - Tazenakht - Taroudant. We have an early start as we climb the sand dunes to watch the sunrise over the Sahara - a memorable experience in the peaceful desert atmosphere. Afterwards, we return to the camp for a traditional Berber breakfast.

    We then leave the desert and continue our journey towards Taroudant. Along the way, we stop for lunch before continuing through the changing landscapes of southern Morocco.

    On arrival in Taroudant, there is the option to explore the medina with a local guide if time allows. We then head to our accommodation where we spend the night.

  • Day 5

    Taroudant to Agadir

    Taroudant - Agadir. After breakfast, we depart Taroudant and travel the short distance to the coastal city of Agadir. With only around 70 kilometres between the two cities, today’s journey is relaxed with less time spent on the road.

    Once we arrive in Agadir, we visit Agadir Oufella, where we can enjoy views overlooking the city and coastline. You will have the option to visit the large market of Souk El Had, one of the most important markets in the region.

    Later, we head to the beach where you have free time to relax by the seaside. Agadir is a popular coastal resort known for its long sandy beaches and mild climate, enjoying around 340 days of sunshine each year. You can take time to walk along the promenade, explore the local area or simply enjoy the Atlantic coastline before we return to our accommodation.

  • Day 6

    Agadir to Essaouira

    Agadir - Essaouira. Today, we travel along the Atlantic coast from Agadir to the charming seaside city of Essaouira. This scenic route follows the coastline and passes through several Berber villages, with views of the ocean and surrounding countryside along the way, including areas known for their banana plantations.

    On arrival in Essaouira, we explore this relaxed coastal city known for its wide beaches, fresh Moroccan seafood and water sports. You will have time to enjoy the seaside atmosphere, walk along the historic ramparts or explore the lively medina.

    Essaouira is considered one of Morocco’s most enjoyable coastal destinations, known for its laid-back atmosphere and beautiful Atlantic setting. We then head to our accommodation where we spend the night.

  • Day 7

    Essaouira to Marrakech

    Essaouira - Marrakech. This morning, we depart Essaouira around 9am and travel back towards Marrakech. Along the way, there is the opportunity to stop at an argan forest where we may see goats climbing the argan trees. You will also have the option to visit a women’s cooperative that produces traditional argan oil.

    Once we arrive in Marrakech, you will have time to explore the city and visit some of its most famous historical landmarks, including the Koutoubia Mosque, the Saadian Tombs, Bahia Palace, the Majorelle Gardens and the main square of Jemaa el-Fnaa.

    After exploring the city, we head to our accommodation where we spend the night.

  • Day 8

    Departure from Marrakech

    After our final breakfast, depending on your departure flight time, you may have some time for some last-minute shopping, exploring or relaxing before you are transferred to the airport for your onward flight. Safe travels!
