Itinerary

  • Day 1

    Welcome to the Maldives

You’ll be met at Malé International Airport by your local guide, who will assist you with your public speedboat transfer to the island of Dhigurah in South Ari Atoll. The speedboat runs daily, departing in the morning and afternoon, and takes just over two hours to reach the island across the Indian Ocean. Along the way, enjoy the views of scattered islands and keep an eye out for dolphins.

If you’re arriving on a morning flight, you can join a complimentary walking tour of Malé city to explore its history, culture and architecture.

After dinner, your tour leader will introduce the work of the Maldives Whale Shark Research Programme. You’ll gain an insight into their ongoing environmental monitoring and whale shark studies - a great introduction to tomorrow’s marine experience. Please note: Morning and afternoon departure 09:30 and 14:30. Bikinis are not permitted on local beaches but can be worn in private guesthouse areas such as gardens, balconies, or designated tourist beaches.

We strongly recommend you bring your own mask and snorkel on this tour, both for hygiene reasons and to ensure a proper fit.

  • Day 2

Whale Shark Safari & Island Culture

Male - Dhigurah. Today, you’ll head out on a private boat to search for whale sharks, which are often found on the outer reef behind Dhigurah. These are wild animals in their natural habitat, so sightings can never be guaranteed - but the search itself is all part of the experience. If you do spot one, you’ll follow the whale shark code of conduct and snorkel alongside these gentle giants.

Later in the day, join your guide for a walk around the island to get a feel for local life. If he’s available, you’ll have the chance to visit Gayyoombe, a long-time island resident, and explore his self-curated museum - a unique collection of historical and traditional items.

You’ll also stop at a local café to try traditional hedhikaa – a selection of sweet and savoury short eats served with black tea.

After dinner, over coffee, your tour leader will share insights into the environmental pressures facing the Maldives’ marine ecosystems and the steps you can take to help reduce human impact.

  • Day 3

    Reef Adventures

This morning, take to the water again to snorkel on vibrant coral reefs rich in marine life. Keep watch for turtles, reef sharks and other surprises beneath the surface.

Back on Dhigurah, if you’re feeling active, take a complimentary kayak out onto the calm waters of the lagoon.

In the afternoon, join your guide for a three-hour forest walk through the island’s lush tropical vegetation. You’ll learn about the forest ecosystem and its vital role in the Maldives’ environment. It’s a warm and energetic walk, but your reward will be a stunning sunset – and, if you wish, a refreshing dip in the ocean.

After dinner, you’ll learn more about the challenges of plastic waste in the Maldives. Your tour leader will introduce the work of Parley for the Oceans and share how local communities are working to reduce plastic pollution.

  • Day 4

    Farewell

Dhigurah - Male. After an early breakfast, you’ll take the morning public speedboat back to Malé in time for your international flight or onward journey.
