The trail passes windswept fields and glacial moraines, eventually reaching the memorial site at Thukla Pass—an emotional and reflective place honouring climbers who lost their lives on Everest. From here, the path ascends gently to Lobuche, where the thinning air and proximity to Everest begin to feel very real. While accommodation becomes more basic at this altitude, your upgraded room at New EBC Lodge offers heated blankets and hearty meals. During the colder months, however, be prepared for frozen pipes and shared washrooms as standard.

  • Day 9

    Trek to Gorak Shep (5,140m) & Visit Everest Base Camp (5,364m)

    This is the most anticipated and exhilarating day of the entire trek. After breakfast, begin the ascent towards Gorak Shep, the final outpost before Everest Base Camp. The route traverses rocky terrain and glacial moraine, with increasingly stark and awe-inspiring views. After settling into your lodge and refuelling with lunch, set off for Everest Base Camp itself. Walk among ice seracs, fluttering prayer flags, and expedition tents in the shadow of the world’s highest peak. This emotional high point of your journey is a moment to savour. After spending time soaking in the powerful atmosphere, return to Gorak Shep for a warm meal and a well-earned rest.

  • Day 10

    Hike to Kala Patthar (5,550m) & Trek to Pheriche (4,240m)

    Rise early for the pre-dawn hike to Kala Patthar, the highest point of your trek. From this iconic viewpoint, enjoy one of the most breathtaking panoramas in the Himalayas as the first rays of sunlight illuminate Everest, Nuptse, and the surrounding peaks. After absorbing the view and taking photographs, descend to Gorak Shep for breakfast before continuing down to Pheriche. As the air thickens and the temperature rises, you'll find breathing easier and energy returning. Pheriche, though more modest in accommodation, provides a cosy place to rest and reflect after two extraordinary days at altitude.

    Trek to Khumjung (3,790m)

    Today’s journey leads you back into the lower Khumbu region with a sense of accomplishment in every step. The trail descends past yak pastures and traditional chortens, winding through alpine meadows. Eventually, you arrive at the peaceful village of Khumjung, nestled under the sacred peak of Khumbila. Known for its close ties to Sir Edmund Hillary, the village is home to the Hillary School and a monastery that claims to house a Yeti scalp.     Packing correctly is essential for your comfort and safety on the Everest Base Camp trek. Although porters will carry your main bag (up to 15kg per person), you’ll need to carry a daypack with essentials during the walk.
