Itinerary
Day 1
Arrival in Keflavik & drive to Reykjavik
Keflavik - Reykjavik. On arrival at Keflavik International Airport, head to the car rental counter to collect your car keys. Once you're ready, begin your drive to Reykjavik, Iceland’s vibrant capital.
After checking in at your hotel, the rest of the day is yours to explore at your own pace. Stroll through the charming streets of downtown Reykjavik, visit the striking Hallgrímskirkja Church, or relax at a cozy café by the Old Harbour. Alternatively, unwind at a geothermal spa, such as the Sky Lagoon, and soak in the warm waters while enjoying ocean views.
Day 2
Golden Circle Exploration
Reykjavik - Gullfoss - Vik. After breakfast, embark on a scenic drive through Iceland's Golden Circle. Begin with a visit to Strokkur, a powerful geyser that erupts every seven minutes, shooting water up to 40 meters into the air. Next, head to Gullfoss, an iconic waterfall that cascades down 32 meters before plunging into a rugged canyon with walls towering up to 10 meters, offering breathtaking views from multiple angles.
Then, make your way along Iceland's stunning south coast to Vík, the southernmost village in the country. Along the route, you'll encounter Reynisfjara, the famous black sand beach with its unique basalt columns and rugged cliffs. This region is also known for the delightful puffins, Iceland's unofficial national bird, often seen nesting along the cliffs.
Day 3
Skaftafell Glaciers & Lagoons
Vik - Skaftafell National Park - Vatnajokull National Park - Hofn. After breakfast, you'll begin your day at Skaftafell National Park, which is part of the breathtaking Vatnajökull National Park. As you enter, you'll hear the glacier creaking and shifting, an unforgettable experience that connects you with Iceland's raw nature. In Skaftafell you will find the Svartifoss waterfall, popular as it dives from basalt hexagonal columns.
Next, head to Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon, located within Europe's largest glacier. Here, you have the option to take a boat tour (not included), where you can cruise through the lagoon, drifting between massive icebergs. Alternatively, you can relax on the shore and take in the stunning views of the glacier and its surrounding landscapes.
Next, you'll head to the Hornafjordur region, making your way to Hofn, where you'll get a stunning view of Vatnajökull from afar. The vast glacier stretches across the landscape, its immense ice sheets and towering peaks creating a truly breathtaking sight. Distance: Approx. 270km
Day 4
Hofn to Egilsstadir
Hofn - Egilsstadir. Today, you'll explore the stunning and pristine Eastern Fjords. You can take the coastal route, winding past steep cliffs, charming fishing villages, and deep valleys, or opt for the inland path to uncover the mysterious Hallormsstadur Valley and Lake Lagarfljót. Local legends say a sea monster lurks in the lake’s depths. Along the way, you'll also discover Iceland's largest forest and the impressive Hengifoss waterfall before continuing your journey to Egilsstadir.
Distance: Approx.190km
Day 5
Volcanic Wonders & Charming Villages
Egilsstadir - Lake Myvatn - Dimmuborgir - Ejjafjordur - Dalvik - Olafsjordur - Siglufjardur - Holfos - Akureyri. After breakfast, you’ll head to Lake Myvatn, located in a geologically active volcanic region near the Katla Volcano. Dramatic volcanic landscapes, including unique lava pillars and pseudo-craters, surround the lake. A highlight in the area is Dimmuborgir (Dark Castle), known for its fascinating volcanic caves and rock formations. Myvatn is also renowned for its rich birdlife.
Your next stop will be at Godafoss, the "Waterfall of the Gods," before heading to Akureyri. Another day of incredible sights awaits, starting with the Bay of Eyjafjördur, one of the best places in the world for whale watching, where you might spot humpback and minke whales.
You’ll then have the option to visit a small fishing village near Dalvík, home to one of the last fish factories in northern Iceland that still imports salt cod. Continuing north and west, you'll explore the Trollaskagi Peninsula, discovering the charming towns of Ólafsfjördur, Siglufjördur, and Hólfjordur.
Distance: Approx.265km
Day 6
Exploring Snaefellanes
Akureyri - Snaefellenes - Kirkjufell - Borgarnes. This morning, you'll drive south, passing through the picturesque Icelandic horse region of Skagafjordur. Later, you'll discover the captivating "lava waterfalls," Hraunfossar and Barnafoss, which are renowned for their striking appearance.
You’ll spend the day exploring the Snaefellsnes Peninsula, dominated by the striking Snaefellsjökull, often referred to as the "snow-capped volcano." This glacier-volcano, which inspired Jules Verne’s Journey to the Centre of the Earth, stands at 1,446 metres above sea level. Later, make your way to the hotel in Borgarnes.
Be sure to stop along the way at the iconic Kirkjufell, Iceland's most photographed mountain. A scenic road, winding between the sea and mountains, will take you to the charming village of Arnarstapi, a quaint miniature harbour tucked away at the base of a fjord.
Continue your adventure with a journey around the Snaefellsjökull glacier along a lava trail, taking you through otherworldly landscapes. Continue to Borgarnes, where you will have the evening at your leisure to relax.
Distance: Approx.370km

It’s also home to the Rift Valley, marking the boundary of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge.
In the afternoon, make your way back to Reykjavik, where you’ll have the rest of the day at leisure.
