Summary
Trace the footsteps of history on this 3-day tour from Istanbul to Canakkale and back. The journey begins at Gallipoli, visiting cemeteries, memorials and battlefields that commemorate both ANZAC and Turkish soldiers. Day two highlights include the Naval Museum, Cimenlik Castle and moving sites along the Dardanelles such as V Beach, Suvla Bay and Alcitepe Village. The final day focuses on the legendary city of Troy, where the iconic wooden horse recalls one of antiquity’s greatest tales.
Itinerary
Day 1
Discovering the Gallipoli Peninsula & Transfer to Canakkale
Istanbul - Gallipoli - Canakkale. Arrive in Istanbul the day before the tour begins. The following morning, you will be collected from your hotel between 06:30 and 07:00 for your journey to Gallipoli.
Your visit takes you to key sites of the Gallipoli campaign. At the Kabatepe War Museum, you can view artefacts and gain insight into the battles fought here. You will see Brighton Beach and the Beach Cemetery before continuing to Anzac Cove, the landing site for Allied troops in 1915. Nearby are the Ariburnu Cemetery and the Anzac Commemoration Site, where annual remembrance services are held.
You will also visit the Lone Pine Australian Memorial, dedicated to the Australian soldiers who fought here, and Johnston’s Jolly, where preserved trenches and tunnels show how close the opposing lines once stood. At the 57th Regiment Turkish Memorial, you can reflect on the sacrifice of the Turkish soldiers. The tour continues to The Nek, a site of fierce fighting, and concludes at Chunuk Bair, where the New Zealand Memorial honours those who served. After, you will continue your journey to Canakkale, arriving at approximately 06:30 PM where you will spend the night
Please note: We recommend booking pre-tour accommodation the day prior to the start of the tour as you will have an early pick up from your hotel on day 1.
Day 2
Cape Helles & the Northern Battlefields
Canakkale - Gallipoli - Canakkale. Today, you will begin with a visit to the Naval Museum, Cimenlik Castle, and the replica of the Nusret Mine Layer, before crossing the Dardanelles to explore the southern tip of the Gallipoli Peninsula at Cape Helles.
Here, you will see the Mecidiye Gun Emplacement and the statue of Corporal Seyit, known for carrying a 215-kilogram shell during battle. You will continue to Alcitepe Village, the Open-Air Turkish Field Hospital Museum, and Achi Baba Hill, the main Allied objective in this sector. The tour also includes the Turkish Memorial and the landing beaches, including S Beach, V Beach with its British Memorial, and W Beach.
Following lunch, you will head north to Bigali Village, the former headquarters of the Ottoman 19th Division and home of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk. You will also visit the Fisherman’s Hut, Hill 60 Cemetery and Suvla Bay, before returning to your hotel in Canakkale.
Day 3
Troy & Return to Istanbul
Canakkale - Troy - Istanbul. After your final breakfast, you will depart for Troy, home to the legendary wooden horse and the setting of Homer’s epic tales. During your visit, you will explore the ancient city’s ruins and learn about its history, mythology, and archaeological discoveries.
In the late afternoon, you will set off for Istanbul at 18:00, arriving at around 23:00, where you will be transferred to your hotel.
Please note: we recommend booking post-tour accommodation as you arrive in Istanbul after 11 PM. Transfers to the airport are not included on this tour.
