Summary

Experience Morocco on this 15 day journey starting and ending in Casablanca, exploring imperial cities, coastal towns and Sahara landscapes. Travel to Rabat, the seaside town of Asilah and vibrant Tangier before reaching the blue streets of Chefchaouen. Continue through the Roman ruins of Volubilis and Meknes to historic Fes. Cross the Middle Atlas via Ifrane and Midelt to reach the Sahara at Merzouga for camel trekking and a desert camp stay. The journey continues through Todra Gorges and Ouarzazate, then south to Taroudant and the Atlantic coast at Essaouira, before finishing with time discovering the highlights of Marrakech.

Itinerary

  • Day 1

    Arrival in Casablanca

    Upon arrival in Casablanca, you will be met at Mohammed V International Airport and transferred to your hotel in the city. The rest of the day will be at your leisure to start exploring, grab a meal or relax before the start of the tour.

  • Day 2

    Casablanca & Rabat

    Casablanca - Rabat. After breakfast, we begin our journey with a visit to one of the most beautiful places in Casablanca, the Hassan II Mosque, the largest of its kind in Africa.

    Afterwards, we travel to Morocco’s capital city, Rabat. This imperial city is home to several important landmarks. We visit the Mechouar, the Tombs of Mohammed V and Hassan II, and the Kasbah of the Udayas.

  • Day 3

    Asilah & Tangier

    Rabat - Asilah - Tangier. Today, we drive to the coastal town of Asilah where we take time to visit the town and see its highlights.

    We then continue towards Tangier, where we explore several of the city’s key sites including the city itself, Cap Spartel and the Hercules Caves.

  • Day 4

    Tangier to Chefchaouen

    Tangier - Chefchaouen. This morning, we visit the city of Tangier and the Hercules Cave before continuing our journey to Chefchaouen, an outstanding town in a strategic location with white and blue houses. The town lies in a green setting crossed by a river.

  • Day 5

    Volubilis, Meknes & Fes

    Chefchaouen - Volubilis - Meknes - Fes. We leave Chefchaouen and depart towards Meknes through the Rif Mountains. Along the way, we visit the Roman ruins of Volubilis.

    We then continue to Meknes where we explore the old medina of this imperial city, surrounded by ramparts. Here we visit the Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail, the green gate of Bab Mansour and Lahdim Square. Afterwards, we continue our journey to Fes.

  • Day 6

    Exploring Fes

    After breakfast, we begin our trip around Fes. We start in the old medina, where we walk through its narrow streets and discover its many historical monuments, including Al-Attarine Madrasa, the Ennajarine Fountain, Al-Qarawiyyine University - the oldest university in the world, founded in 859 - Bou Inania Madrasa and the Mausoleum of Moulay Idriss.

    Our exploration of the old medina comes to an end before lunch in a restaurant.

    Before returning to our accommodation, we visit Fes Al-Jdid, the new city. After lunch in a local restaurant, we enjoy a panoramic view over the whole Medina of Fes before a short visit to the new part of the city.

  • Day 7

    The Middle Atlas to Midelt

    Fes - Ifrane - Azrou - Midelt. This morning, we leave Fes and cross the Middle Atlas Mountains towards Ifrane. Along the way, we enjoy views of Berber villages and cedar forests.

    We pass through Ifrane, sometimes called “Little Switzerland” for its beauty, and continue through Azrou.

    Our journey then continues to the town of Midelt, where we stay for the night in a hotel or kasbah.

  • Day 8

    Midelt to Erfoud & Merzouga

    Midelt - Ziz Valley - Erfoud - Merzouga. Today, we start our journey from Midelt and travel across the Ziz Valley, where we see the impressive natural landscape filled with palm trees. By the time we reach Erfoud, we stop at local shops known for their fossils.

  • Day 9

    Exploring Merzouga & the Sahara Desert

    Merzouga - Khamlia - Rissani - Merzouga. After breakfast at our camp, we visit the area around Merzouga. Our first stop is Khamlia, the hometown of an ethnic group who welcome us with a cup of tea while we listen to their traditional music. We then visit the desert lake, where we can see several species of birds.

    We continue driving across the plain towards Rissani and Tafilalte, the region from which the Alaouite dynasty descends. Here we see fortified villages and local souks.

    In the afternoon, we return to our accommodation before setting out on a camel trek across the sand dunes. We watch the sunset before arriving at a desert camp in the heart of the desert, where we enjoy the quiet atmosphere, the campfire and the sound of Berber music played by local musicians.

  • Day 10

    Merzouga to Ouarzazate

    Merzouga - Todra Gorges - Ouarzazate. Early this morning, we wake to see the sunrise before returning for breakfast at our accommodation.

    We then begin our journey towards the Todra Gorges, passing through Rissani and Tafilalt along the way. At the Todra Gorges, we see water flowing from the mountains down into the green valley.

    We continue our journey past the town of Boumalne Dades and through the Rose Valley, known throughout Morocco for the wide cultivation of roses as well as apples, figs and corn. Along the road, many kasbahs line the landscape, giving this route its name - the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs.

    We then continue towards Ouarzazate, where we spend the night.

  • Day 11

    Journey to Taroudant

    Ouarzazate - Taroudant. Today, we depart and travel past Taznakht and Taliouine as we make our way to Taroudant.

    Along the way, you will have the opportunity to visit saffron fields where you can meet local farmers working in their fields.

    We arrive in Taroudant in the afternoon. Here, we take a tour around the medina, which is surrounded by walls, and wander through its streets.

  • Day 12

    Agadir & the Coast to Essaouira

    Taroudant - Agadir - Essaouira. We drive to one of Morocco’s most visited cities, Agadir. You will have time for lunch there before we continue along the quiet coastal road towards Essaouira.

    Along the way, we enjoy views of the coastal scenery and the famous argan trees, often seen with goats climbing in their branches.

  • Day 13

    Essaouira to Marrakech

    Essaouira - Marrakech. After breakfast, we visit the seaport and the medina, also known as the Skala, where we see the old structures and cannons. We also visit the Museum of Sidi Mohammed Ben Abdallah and walk through the market, where we see many products, including handmade items and local crafts.

    You will then have time to enjoy seafood for lunch. Afterwards, we head east towards Marrakech.

  • Day 14

    Discovering Marrakech

    This morning, we begin discovering Marrakech, Morocco’s touristic capital. We visit several impressive places including the Menara, the Bahia Palace, the Badi Palace and the Saadian Mausoleums.

    You will then have time for a traditional Moroccan lunch at a restaurant.

    After lunch, we visit the Koutoubia Mosque, built in the 12th century, and Djemaa El Fna, a place no visitor should miss when visiting Marrakech. The square is well known for its lively atmosphere, especially in the evening when people gather around comedians, storytellers and snake charmers.

  • Day 15

    Marrakech to Casablanca

    After our final breakfast, we will depart from Marrakech, making our way back to Casablanca, where you will be dropped off at the airport for your onward flight. Safe travel!
