Frequently asked questions

  • What is the best time to travel?

The ideal months are October to March when the weather is cool, dry, and visibility is excellent for Himalayan views. Please note that this itinerary is not available during the Christmas–New Year peak (15 Dec – 10 Jan).
  • Is altitude a concern on this trip?

While you will be in the Himalayan foothills, the highest points (like Pelling and Gangtok) remain below 2,200 metres, so altitude sickness is rare. However, travellers sensitive to altitude may feel mild effects like breathlessness for a day or two.
  • What type of traveller is this trip suitable for?

This itinerary suits cultural explorers, soft adventurers, and nature lovers. It's ideal for couples, families with older children, and friends looking for moderate-paced travel with heritage stays and guided exploration.
  • What is the standard of accommodation?

You can choose between 4-star heritage hotels or 5-star luxury resorts. Properties include The Elgin series and Mayfair resorts, which combine colonial charm with modern comforts and mountain views.
  • Are meals included in the tour?

Yes. Breakfast is included daily. Dinner is included at all destinations except Kolkata, which is offered on a bed & breakfast basis to allow flexibility for dining in the city.
  • Is the Toy Train ride guaranteed?

The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway ride is included (Darjeeling to Ghoom and return), subject to operational conditions. If unavailable due to weather or maintenance, alternatives will be offered.
  • How are the road conditions in the mountains?

The journey involves scenic but winding hill roads, especially between Darjeeling, Pelling, and Gangtok. Travel is in private air-conditioned vehicles, and regular rest stops are made.
  • Do I need a visa or permit to travel?

Yes. A valid Indian tourist visa is required. Additionally, Sikkim requires an Inner Line Permit (ILP), which will be arranged by the tour operator. E-visas do not include this automatically, so please mention your visit to Sikkim during your visa application.
  • Are there any travel restrictions or rules in Sikkim?

Sikkim is an eco-sensitive state. Use of plastic bottles is restricted, so travellers are encouraged to carry reusable water bottles, which can be refilled with filtered water at hotels.
  • What is the group size and guide arrangement?

This itinerary can be booked for private departures (2–8 people). A local English-speaking guide will accompany you from Bagdogra to Bagdogra. A Kolkata specialist guide is provided during city touring.
  • Is travel insurance required?

Yes. We strongly recommend comprehensive travel and health insurance to cover cancellations, medical expenses, and any unexpected delays.
