Itinerary
Day 1
Tangier to Chefchaouen
Tangier - Chefchaouen. Once you have arrived in Tangier, you will be met at the Tangier airport or port. We will then start our tour by departing through the Rif Mountains towards the beautiful city of Chefchaouen.
Chefchaouen is a Berber name meaning “horn” and the town is set beneath the mountains of the Rif. Here we see the white houses built over the hills in different shades of blue.
Day 2
Volubilis, Meknes & Fes
Chefchaouen - Volubilis - Meknes - Fes. After breakfast, we depart towards Fes. Along the way, we stop to visit the Roman ruins of Volubilis.
We then continue to Meknes, the modern imperial city, where we explore the old medina, surrounded by long defensive walls.
At the end of the day, we continue our journey to Fes.
Day 3
Discovering Fes
Today, we will embark on a full day exploring the city of Fes, the oldest imperial city in Morocco, founded in the eighth century by Moulay Idriss II.
Our guided visit begins in the old medina, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where we walk through its narrow streets lined with local shops and stalls. During our exploration of the medina’s cultural and historical sites, we visit Bou Inania Madrasa, Al-Attarine Madrasa, the Ennajarine Fountain, the Mausoleum of Moulay Idriss and Al-Qarawiyyine University - the oldest continually operating university in the world.
You will then have time for lunch in a local restaurant.
After lunch, we enjoy a panoramic view over the whole Medina of Fes before a brief visit to the new part of the city, Fes Al-Jadid. In the evening, we return to our accommodation.
Day 4
The Middle Atlas to the Sahara Desert
Fes - Azrou - Midelt - Merzouga. This morning, we leave Fes and drive through the Middle Atlas Mountains, crossing cedar forests that are known around the world. Cedar wood is highly valued by woodworkers and used for many different purposes.
Our journey continues to Ifrane, often called the Switzerland of Morocco, and then to Azrou, a typical Zayan Berber village in the Middle Atlas.
We continue our drive through the Ziz Valley and pass the city of Erfoud. You will have time for lunch before we continue towards the Merzouga desert, passing many Berber villages along the way.
From Erfoud, we usually take a rocky road to reach Merzouga. We arrive in the desert later in the day.

Afterwards, we visit the desert lake before continuing towards the city of Rissani in the Tafilalet region, the most important oasis in the south-east Moroccan desert where fortified villages are surrounded by palm groves. In the afternoon, we return to our accommodation.
Later, we head out for a sunset camel ride across the dunes before arriving at a Berber tent in the middle of the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi. Here we spend the evening with Berber music, surrounded by the quiet of the desert.
Day 6

Merzouga - Todra Gorges - Dades Valley. We have an early start to watch the sunrise over the desert dunes and enjoy a camel ride in the early morning light. Afterwards, we return to our accommodation to freshen up and have breakfast.

The oases along this route are known for their many kasbah ruins in different shapes, set within the surrounding natural landscape.
When we arrive in Ouarzazate, we will then make our way to our accommodation.

From here, we can see views of the old caravan routes and the distant peaks of the High Atlas Mountains. We take time to explore the kasbah ruins, which still reflect the ancient Berber civilisation.
We then continue our journey across the High Atlas Mountains through the Tizi n’Tichka Pass at 2,260 metres, stopping at panoramic viewpoints along the way.
You will have time for lunch in Marrakech before we continue to Essaouira.
