Itinerary

  • Day 1

Welcome to Seoul: Taekwondo, Myeongdong & Namsan Mountain

Kick off your South Korea adventure by meeting your guide and group at the hostel in the afternoon. After a quick welcome and pre-departure briefing, you’ll be clued up and ready to go. First stop? A hands-on Taekwondo training session with pro instructors. A chance to channel your inner martial artist and see if you’ve got what it takes! After working up an appetite, we’ll head into Myeongdong, one of Seoul’s liveliest neighbourhoods. Tuck into your first Korean dinner with the group – think sizzling BBQ and plenty of kimchi. It’s the perfect time to get to know your fellow travellers and toast to an epic trip ahead. Once the sun sets, we’re off to Namsan Mountain for spectacular views of Seoul at night. Ride the cable car up and stroll past the famous ‘padlocks of love’ at the base of Seoul N Tower. Want to go even higher? Head to the top of the tower for a 360° cityscape glowing beneath you. We’ll take the cable car back down and enjoy a relaxed walk through the city lights back to your accommodation in Myeongdong – ready to rest up for your first full day tomorrow!

  • Day 2

Seoul: Gyeongbokgung Palace & Free time to explore

Rise and shine – it’s time to explore the ancient side of Seoul! We’ll hop on the metro to Gyeongbokgung Palace, where you’ll catch the impressive Royal Guard Changing Ceremony. For a true cultural experience, you can even rent a hanbok (traditional Korean attire) and explore the palace grounds in style. The afternoon is yours to explore! Here are some top picks:

    • Explore Bukchon Hanok Village and take a stroll through charming lanes lined with traditional Korean houses
    • Visit Insadong Art Street and discover galleries, quirky shops and cosy tea houses
    • Rent a bike and cruise along Han River, one of Seoul’s most scenic local hangouts
    • Shop, snack and soak up the fast-paced vibe of the iconic Gangnam District.
    • Get a feel of K-culture at HiKR Ground and film your own K-pop music video
    • Another activity you may enjoy is a Makgeolli-making class – Learn to brew Korea’s iconic rice wine (and taste it too!) This evening, grab dinner and drinks in Euljiro or Itaewon, two buzzing areas packed with authentic, local restaurant.
  • Day 3

DMZ & Seoul with a K-pop Dance Class

Today, you’re heading to the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ). Hop on a bus for the hour-long ride north to Imjingak, and if you’re lucky, hear the powerful first-hand story of a North Korean defector. Next, make your way to Dora Observatory and peer through binoculars into North Korea – you might even spot people going about their day in the distant villages. Then, venture underground into the 3rd Tunnel, a covert passage dug by North Korea, bringing you within just 170 metres of the border! Back in Seoul, it’s time to turn up the energy with a K-pop Dance Class. Learn the moves from the pros and channel your inner idol – you might just find your new calling! Why not spend the evening in Hongdae? With its buzzing food scene, bars and live music, it’s the perfect spot to wrap up an epic day.

  • Day 4

    Farewell

It’s the final day of your South Korea adventure! Say goodbye to your travel crew and head off with new friends, epic memories and stories you’ll be telling for years to come.

Essential trip information

Our Important Notes and Packing List cover all essentials, from necessary equipment to inclusions, ensuring you're fully equipped and informed for this extraordinary adventure and more.

Frequently asked questions

  • Where does the trip start and finish?

Your entire adventure takes place in Seoul, giving you the chance to explore the city’s must-see highlights – all in just 4 days. All local transport is included (excluding airport transfers), so you can focus on the fun without worrying about the logistics.
  • What is the accommodation used on this tour?

On this adventure tour, you’ll be based in a hostel. All of the hostels we use are clean, comfortable, and well-located. In them, you’ll have all bedding provided for you, so no need to bring anything extra! The most commonly used hostel on this tour is Step Inn Myeongdong 1 in Seoul. Please note that while gender-specific dorm rooms are available, there is a chance that your hostel accommodation will be mixed dorms.
  • Do the hostels have Wi-Fi? Will I be able to keep in touch with friends and family while in South Korea?

There is Wi-Fi available for use in all the accommodation you stay in during The Dragon Trip. During the temple stay experience, there is Wi-Fi available in communal areas, however, there is no Wi-Fi in your rooms for the night.
  • Do I need a sleeping bag or is linen supplied in the hostels?

No, all bedding is provided throughout the trip.
  • Who looks after our bags when we’re on transport and/or day excursions?

The bags will be stored at the hostels where they are tagged and recorded. We have never had a case of anyone losing their luggage or having their luggage stolen so you can focus on having fun.
  • What kind of restaurants will we go to?

Your Adventure Leader will always offer to take you for a group meal, where we go to a local restaurant, which we know is hygienic and has cheap and delicious food. If you are craving Western food, then there are lots of great options. South Korea also has endless, delicious street food options like Tteok-bokki and Bibimbap, which will allow you to stick to a slightly lower budget.
  • What kind of food will we be eating on the trip?

One of the best parts of travelling in South Korea is definitely the food! It may not have as high of a profile when it comes to Asian cuisines, but South Korea has something for everyone, even the pickiest or most adventurous of eaters.
  • I’m vegetarian/have allergies – will I be able to get the right food?

Yes! With so many food choices, South Korea can meet the needs of individuals with special dietary needs or requests. Just tell your Adventure Leader and they can help you find something suitable. You will probably discover a new dish that you love!
  • What travel insurance do I need for South Korea?

We require all our customers to have travel insurance when coming on the trip. We recommend purchasing a travel insurance that offers ‘Bad Weather or Natural Disaster Coverage’. Please bring details of your travel insurance along with you. In the event of an accident, we may need to contact your insurance company on your behalf, so we will need the insurance company’s name and phone number and your policy number. When it comes to who to choose, we’re big fans of World Nomads as a travel insurance provider.
  • Do I need any special vaccinations for South Korea?

The Dragon Trip aims to enter no areas with tropical diseases. However, as with any backpacking trip, we urge you to seek advice from a travel nurse before departing your home country. All travellers should be up to date with a full course of vaccination and boosters recommended by their governments.
  • I’m not very physically fit! Is the trip suitable for me?

At its heart, the Dragon Trip is an adventure tour of South Korea, but you can make your Dragon Trip as physically active (or inactive) as you want. If there is an activity you’d like to give a miss, you could ask your Adventure Leader for a more relaxing activity!
  • I have a medical condition – is this OK?

Generally yes, but please do inform us of your specific requirements at the point of booking.
  • If something happens, will I be able to get necessary medical attention?

All South Korean cities have hospitals and clinics in case of emergencies. Regardless of where you are in South Korea, medical treatment is available, and your Adventure Leader will always be on hand to help take you to a hospital if worse comes to worst.
  • How do I get money in South Korea?

You will be able to withdraw money at ATMs in the major cities and tourist areas in South Korea, and your Adventure Leader will tell you when the next stop on the trip where you will be able to withdraw more cash is. Not all ATMs in South Korea will accept foreign bank cards, so would recommend researching ATMs in advance. We advise that you notify your bank that you will be travelling before you depart. As a note, many banks and cards do charge a foreign transaction fee when withdrawing money while abroad. Withdrawing cash in your home currency before travelling and exchanging it to the local currency in South Korea will allow you to avoid card fees, however, ensure you research the exchange rate and pick the vendor with the best offers to avoid heavy commissions or poor rates.
  • How much should I budget for food and drink on the Dragon Trip?

It really varies depending on your taste and budget. You can get a meal of Gimpap (Korean sushi) or noodles for 5,000-6,000₩ (£4-5). Generally, we take travellers to affordable restaurants and recommend budgeting £10-15 a day for food and drink.
  • Do I need to tip in South Korea?

Tipping in South Korea is not customary and is not necessary. It’s not uncommon for staff to politely refuse tips, so you won’t offend anyone by not tipping. You can offer for a taxi driver to keep the change, but formal tips are not expected.
