Travel information

  • If my holiday is cancelled will l receive a refund?

Yes! In April 2020 we made sure customers money was 100% protected and a refund would be possible if your holiday is cancelled by the operator.

During the Covid19 pandemic, many of the operators that we work with have refused to refund and we are continuing to fight for customers affected. If you are affected and made your booking prior to April 2020 our team should have been in touch with all the information, but please email us at Hello@theadventurepeople.com if you have any questions. To find out more about financial protection click here. >>

  • Can I change the date of my tour?

Yes you can! For the vast majority of cases, there are no charges up to around 60 days before the start date but it could be lower pending the operator, check the Key Conditions for your tour. If the price on the new date is higher than your original date you'll have to pay the difference of course.  In many cases, operators are currently offering more relaxed terms and will allow changes up to 14 days before departure so please get in touch with our team if you are considering this.  For a minority of bookings local government permits are bought in advance and can not be moved so for trips like the Inca Trail this may not be possible.  Again, just get in touch and our team can help.

  • Do you charge amendment fees?

No, The Adventure People do not charge you anything to make changes to your trip. However, the operator that is running the tour may charge you, depending on what the amendments are and how close to departure it is. We will inform you of the costs before actioning any changes.

  • How do I find out if I need a visa for my trip?

Visas are the responsibility of the individual traveller. Please make sure you check your home country’s Embassy website. They will have the most up to date information about visa requirements, costs and will provide the required forms.

  • Do I need travel insurance?

Yes, Travel Insurance is mandatory on all of our tours. We also strongly recommend it covers cancellation, curtailment and loss of luggage and personal effects.

Choosing a Tour

  • Which trip is right for me?

We have over 6000 tours on our website. You can search by country, activity and date and then further refine your results using the filters. You can filter by price, age range, trip duration and physical rating.

All our travel experts have great knowledge of our tours and will be able to help you compare different options and suggest tours that are best suited to your specific requirements.

  • How do I get more information about a tour I am interested in?

Every tour has an online brochure you can also download. It has lots of detailed information about the tour but if you do need more information you can also contact our adventure experts who will be able to help.

  • How can I tell how physically challenging trips are?

All trips have a physical rating score between 1 - 5. 1 being easy going and 5 being very challenging. You can all see a breakdown of the itinerary to see what is involved each day of your tour and for more information, you can download the brochure. Again if you are looking for any more information, reassurance, a clear idea of the fitness level needed or maybe a comparison between 2 tours then just ask our team. For trekking and cycling tours, you will also find a breakdown of distances covered each day to give you a good idea of how challenging the adventure is.

  • How much experience do I need for the activities?

The vast majority of our tours require no previous experience for any of the activities. Your guide will run you through all the information you need before you start and ensure that all the group is well looked after throughout. It’s important that you have a realistic idea of fitness required but leaders are experienced in managing the different capabilities of a group to ensure everyone gets the most out of it. If at any point you are struggling please let your guide know.

Some of the more challenging tours do require some experience and a good level of fitness. This is both for your safety and enjoyment. These will be marked with a higher physical rating and it will also be highlighted in the description.

  • Do you have family trips?

Yes! We have a great range of tours that are specifically designed for families. This means that they have family style accommodation like triple rooms, child friendly activities and the group dynamic and itinerary is more oriented towards younger travellers. These are all clearly marked as “family” tours. We also have many more that welcome children from 5 years.

Some of the tours are listed as adult only but operators can be flexible, depending on when and where you are travelling. Please ask our team for more details.

Small Group Travel

  • Are all the trips guided?

Yes, the vast majority of our tours are run by expert guides. They have great local knowledge and experience and will help make your adventure unforgettable.

If you want some more independence, we have some tours that are self guided. Here, we provide you with all the info you need ahead of your trip and away you go. Of course, you are never left on your own, we will give you all the details of the local team who will be there for you 24 hours a day during your trip.

  • How much free time is there?

It depends on each tour but on the whole our operators try and ensure there is a good balance between organised activities and excursions and free time for relaxing or independent exploring. Plus if there is anything you want to opt-out of, that’s no problem, just let the guide know. The itinerary listed will give you a good idea of what to expect each day. Some are non-stop, full of adventure throughout, so if that’s not what you are looking for, double-check with our team before booking.  A great way to mix a bit more relaxation into the busier trips is to add a few days on the end to relax - we can often organise this for you.

  • How many people are in the group?

On average you will be in a group of about 12 people. You can find the maximum group size on the tour page, in the details section. We can find out how many other travellers are on your tour but bear in mind that people may book at different times so the information will change. Some of our tours have larger group sizes - again you can see this on the tour page.

  • What is the average age of travellers?

Ages really can range from 18 - 80 on many tours. If you are looking to travel people of a similar age, use the filters in the search to show the tour options. We have a number of trips for example that are run for 18-39s and some that attract a more mature traveller.

The majority of our trips attract travellers of all different ages, in fact many people tell us that the best part of their holiday was meeting new people they would otherwise not have spent time with.

  • How many people travel solo?

Just over 60% of our customers are solo travellers looking for an adventure. On a tour, you will most likely have a mix of solo travellers, couples, friends and groups. This all helps to create a great atmosphere throughout the tour.

  • Do I have to pay more as a solo traveller?

No, the majority of tours have no single supplements which mean you don’t have to pay more if you are travelling solo. You will be paired with a fellow traveller of the same sex in accommodation throughout the trip. If you would like to have your own room you can pay a bit more, just let us know when you come to book. A small minority of trips have a compulsory single supplement and our team will make this clear when you are booking. As always, just ask if you have any questions.

  • Can I know who else is booked on my tour?

While we can’t give away personal information, we can find out the rough ages and makeup of the group to give you an idea of who you will be travelling with. Of course, things can change as more people book and some trips may have few other travellers booked when you are enquiring.

Some of our operators also run forums where travellers can get to know one another before the tour starts, let us know if you would be interested in joining up too.

Tour Information

  • Can I add extra nights on the beginning or end of my group trip?

Yes, we can book extra accommodation for you with a majority of our operators, just ask at the time of booking and we will get prices and availability.

  • Can I book airport transfers?

Yes. Sometimes the transfers from the airport are included in the price of your tour, this will be highlighted in the details section of the tour page. If not, we can request transfers with the majority of our providers. You can book these at the same time as your tour, or closer to departure.

  • What is included in the tour?

Each tour is different and we have listed all the inclusions on the tour pages under ‘what’s included’. On the whole, accommodation, transportation on the tour, activities, the guide, and some meals will all be included.

  • Are flights included?

International flights are not included in the tour as our travellers come from all over the globe. Some operators offer flight-inclusive packages which we can book, just ask one of the team and they can quote you a flight-inclusive price. We can also help you look for the best flight options for your tour even if you are happy to book independently please ask!

If your tour involves domestic flights, these are almost always included in your tour price. If not, this will be clear on the tour page.

  • How do I book extra excursions?

Optional excursions will be listed in the tour brochure or you can ask one of our team. Our team can book some of these excursions for you before departure, and subject to availability. You can also book a majority of activities while on your tour, just speak to your guide once you head off.

  • Do I have to do all the activities?

No! While we hope you enjoy the itinerary and get stuck in, you can nearly always opt out of any parts that you aren’t keen on. Check with our team if you would like to skip anything specific and they can advise on whether that would be possible.

If you are looking at a cycling or trekking trip then this would sometimes not be the case so if you are worried about your ability to complete all days then just get in touch with our team and they will be able to check whether you would be able to miss a day.

  • Can I make changes to the itinerary of a tour?

Some of our operators can be flexible with itineraries, it’s always worth asking if you have something specific in mind that the tour does not cover and our team can advise whether it would be possible to fit this in, either through the operator or independently. And if you can't find what you're looking for we can also look at building a bespoke tour for you.

  • Are tours accessible for people with disabilities?

We endeavour to make all our tours as inclusive as possible. Some destinations are not well equipped for travellers with physical disabilities with no disabled access routes or facilities. Some of our operators can alter itineraries to make them more accessible or provide alternative accommodation. Please give us a call to discuss your specific needs and we can recommend the best destinations and tours.

  • Do I need any specialist equipment?

For nearly all of our trips you don’t need anything special. For camping or trekking trips you will need sleeping bags, good hiking boots and a comfy day pack, but most other things you will already have around the house.   If you would like a detailed packing list then our team can normally point you in the right direction.

  • Do I need to bring a sleeping bag?

For most trips, you will not need one unless there is camping involved.  Your trip notes should list this but if you are unsure just ask and our team can advise you. If you do, there will often be an option to hire one locally. Please enquire with our team if you’d like to do this.

Accommodation

  • Can I choose who I share a room with?

If you book together, then, of course, we will ensure that you share a room throughout. If you are travelling with a friend but have booked separately, please let us know so that we can advise our local partners.

Solo travellers will be matched up with someone of the same gender to share a room with.

  • Can I have my own room?

Yes, on the majority of our tours, you can opt to have a single room at an extra cost. On some trips, some of the accommodation you stay in will be shared multi person rooms, camp sites or smaller hotels without the capacity to guarantee the additional space - at this point there may not be an option for a single room.

  • What is the standard of accommodation like on tours?

Each tour is different, we have everything from basic camping, guest houses, local homestays, BnBs and more comfortable boutique hotels. Take a look at the information on the tour page for the type of accommodation used or ask our experts.

  • Can I find out what hotels we will be staying in?

Yes, for most trips we can request a hotel list from the operators. While we cannot guarantee that this will be the exact hotel, and it may be subject to change, it should give you an idea of what the accommodation will be like.

  • Can I book a triple room?

Where the hotels offer it, yes, we can request triple rooms. Just bear in mind that not all the accommodations offer this so if you're travelling as a three, one person may have to share with someone else. With trips specifically designed for families, accommodation options are chosen that have more flexible rooming options and this should nearly always be an option without additional cost.

  • Do you cater for dietary requirements

All our operators will try their best to accommodate all dietary requirements. In some more remote places, there may be less varied options but it is always possible. Please let us know as soon as possible so that we can pass the information on to the local teams in good time.

  • Does the accommodation have wifi?

Nearly all accommodation in towns, cities and often villages will have access to wifi but as a general rule, the more remote you go the less likely you will be able to get online. Some countries may not have the infrastructure to support the internet to the level many of us are used to so sometimes you have to embrace the radio silence.

If you need any more information, please contact us and we will be happy to help!
