Solo Travel: Your Ultimate Guide to Exploring the World Alone

Solo travel is a rewarding experience that allows you to explore the world on your own terms. Whether you’re seeking adventure, personal growth, or just a break from routine, traveling alone can be life-changing. Here’s everything you need to know to embark on your next solo journey confidently.

Why Travel Solo?

Traveling solo offers unparalleled freedom and self-discovery. You set the pace, choose the destinations, and make decisions without compromise. It’s an opportunity to:

  • Build Confidence: Overcome challenges and boost your self-reliance.

  • Meet New People: Engage with locals and fellow travelers.

  • Tailor Your Experience: Focus on what interests you most.

Tips for Solo Travelers

  1. Plan Ahead: Research your destination, including safety tips, local customs, and must-see attractions. A little preparation goes a long way.

  2. Stay Connected: Share your itinerary with family or friends and check in regularly.

  3. Pack Light: Opt for versatile clothing and essentials to make mobility easier.

  4. Join Group Activities: Many tours and events cater to solo travelers, offering a chance to meet like-minded adventurers.

  5. Trust Your Instincts: If something doesn’t feel right, prioritize your safety.

Small Group Tours for Solo Travelers

Joining a small group tour is a fantastic way for solo travelers to enjoy the best of both worlds: independence and camaraderie. These tours often:

  • Pair solo travelers as roommates to avoid extra costs.

  • Offer private room options for added comfort.

  • Foster connections with people sharing your travel passion.

Destinations Perfect for Solo Travelers

Certain destinations are particularly welcoming and easy to navigate for those traveling alone. Consider places known for their hospitality, safety, and accessibility:

  • Japan: A blend of tradition and modernity with an emphasis on safety.

  • New Zealand: Adventure-friendly and full of natural beauty.

  • Portugal: Charming cities, great food, and solo-friendly vibes.

  • Thailand: Budget-friendly with countless attractions and friendly locals.

Making the Most of Your Journey

  • Stay Open-Minded: Embrace unexpected opportunities and encounters.

  • Learn Basic Phrases: Knowing a few words in the local language can go a long way.

  • Capture the Memories: Document your experiences through photos or a travel journal.

Traveling solo doesn’t mean being alone. It’s a chance to connect deeply—with yourself, with new cultures, and with the incredible people you’ll meet along the way. Ready to embark on your next adventure? Start planning today and let the world become your playground!

  • How does room-sharing work?

On small group tours, room sharing is a common option designed to help solo travelers save on costs. Typically, you will be paired with another solo traveler of the same gender to share a room, ensuring affordability and a comfortable experience. For those who prefer privacy, many we also offer the option to book a private room for an additional fee, this can be found within the booking process on our site.

  • What is the age of other travellers?

We display the average age of each tour on the tour page itself. This is to give you an idea about the general and typical make up of the tour however, it can differ of course.

Most tours are aimed at everyone and typically the average age is around 40. Some tours are aimed at a younger demographic, these are typically with a maximum age limit of 35 or 39. These tours generally have an average of of 29 to 30.

Some tours are aimed at those a little older too which is implied by the average age.

  • How social is it?

Most tours have a good mix of time as a group and time alone. In the evenings, for example, you may have dinner all together but you can choose not to join if you prefer to do your own thing. There will also be free time built into the itinerary for you to explore independently.

You can make the holiday as sociable as you like and the choice is really yours.

  • Can I get my own room?

Yes, on most adventures you're able to pay a little extra for your own room. This is available during the booking process, you can select your own rom and the supplement will be added to the total price.

  • Are other solo travellers on the trips?

Yes, typically each group is made up of around 60% solo travellers and the rest a mix of friends and couples.

  • How many people are in each group?

The average number of people in each group tour is around 10 to 12. If you would like to know please ask our team. The size of the group changes over time as people book, often spaces will sell out on very popular tours.
